CHAPTER 1
Hi boys and girls, let me tell you about the time that I was taken by mistake by another owner at a cat show that my owner took me to. You know what a cat show is don't you? Well it's kind of like a beauty contest for people, but this is only for cats. There are lots of cats that come to this contest, big cats, small cats, fat cats, and skinny cats, white cats, black cats, and all different colors of cats. They all come to the contest to see if they can become the best looking cat of the year.
Well, let me tell you what happened to me that day. There were lots of people looking at all the cats, all the cats were in their cages. They didn't want to get stepped on by all the people that were walking around. Well, my owner put my cage down right next to another cat that looked just like me.
Then he walked away to talk to one of his friends. And while he was talking to one of his friends, guess what happened? That's right the owner of the other cat that was next to me took my cage with me in it and started walking away. I guess that he thought that I was his cat. I said to the man, "Hey put me back, I'm not your cat, I belong to someone else".
I guess that he didn't hear me so I said it louder, "Hey mister I'm not your cat I belong to someone else. But he just kept on walking. I guess it just sounded like meowing to him. I tried my best to let him know that I wasn't his cat, but it didn't do any good.
Then he carried me outside and started walking to his car. I said, "Hey mister, don't put me in your car, don't you know that you have the wrong cat please take me back to my owner". Well that didn't work either. He put me right in the back seat of his car, and shut the door.
Well let me tell you, I really started to get scared. Do you know what it is like to really get scared? I didn't know where I was going. I was afraid that I'd never see my best friend Samantha or my owner again. I said to the man, "Hey mister, your cat has a white spot behind his ear, and his tail is shorter than my tail. But he just kept on going. I guess he just didn't understand cat talk.
It seemed that we were riding for a long time. Then, the car stopped. The man got out and opened the car door and took me out. He started walking towards his house. I said, "Please mister, I'm telling you that you have the wrong cat, please take me back to the cat show and back to my owner.
He carried me to the inside of his house. Now I was really starting to worry. I thought I would have to stay there forever and that he would never know that he took the wrong cat.
When we got into the house, he put down the cage on the floor and went over to the telephone to call someone. When the man was talking on the telephone, I heard a noise coming from around the corner of the kitchen wall and guess what the noise was? It was a big black dog and he was looking right at me.
He started growling at me and he came closer and closer to my cage. He came really close. Then he stopped, and looked right at me and said, "Who are you? You're not our cat Billy, who are you and what's your name?
My name is Sammy, and your owner took me by mistake at the cat show. My owner put my cage next to the cage your cat was in and went to talk to some of his friends that he saw there. Then your owner came along and took my cage with me in it by mistake. I tried to tell him that he took the wrong cat, but he just didn't understand. And that's how I got here. Please don't hurt me. All I want is to get back to my friends and my owner. I won't hurt you Sammy, I will help you if I can. But you know that you really look like our cat Billy, except that Billy has a shorter tail and has a white spot behind his ear.
If you can help me, I want to be your friend. What's your name? My name is Rocky. Now let's see if I can help.
So Rocky started to bark, and bark and bark, until his owner came over. He said, "Rocky, you know better than to scare Billy like that". Then his owner took me out of my cage and looked at me and said, "Don't let Rocky scare you like that, he doesn't mean it. Then all of a sudden, that man looked me right in the eyes and said, "Wait a minute, you're not Billy, who are you? Oh no, I must have taken the wrong cat. But who's got my cat? Then he looked at the tag that my owner gave me to wear around my neck. This tag tells people who I am and where I live in case I get lost. Well, let me tell you, I sure am glad that my owner gave me that tag because now this man can find out where I live and what my name is.
He looked at the tag and said, "Oh Sammy I am sorry that I took you by mistake. If I call the telephone number on this tag, I'll find out who owns you and where you live. And your owner probably has my cat.
So that's what he did. He called the telephone number that was on the tag and guess what? My owner answered.. Then the man said "Hey, I took your cat Sammy by mistake at the cat show. Do you have my cat? Then the man said "Guess what Sammy, I'm talking to your owner right now and he wants me to bring you home. Want to go home Sammy? OH yes I said I really want to see my best friend Samantha and my owner again. Well, let's get going Sammy. I'll get you home as soon as I can. So he picked me up in his arms and said, "I don't think we need to put you in the cage Sammy, you can ride in the front seat with me and I'll take you home.
Then the man said, "Hey Rocky, do you want to come with me when I take Sammy home? And Rocky's tail started to wag, and I knew that Rocky wanted to go along. Well we got into the car and they started to take me home. I turned to Rocky and said, "Thank you so much for helping me Rocky, I want to be your friend. Would you like to be my friend too? Rocky said, "I would like that very much Sammy, I would like that very much".
