The Shadow Out of Time (Annotated with Critical Essay and H.P. Lovecraft Biography)
H.P. Lovecraftís story, The Shadow Out of Time, was written over a three and a half month period in late 1934 and early 1935. The idea for the tale had come to Lovecraft four years earlier. After the first draft, the author rewrote it at least two times.

The story is about Nathaniel Wingate Peaslee, a professor of political economy, at a fictitious university called Miskatonic. In 1908 Peaslee has a nervous breakdown while teaching a class. He awakens in hospital suffering from such a severe amnesia that he cannot even make use of his motor or vocal abilities. While he gradually recovers from his physical disabilities, he also develops super-human intelligence. In the face of this tremendous change, his wife divorces him, and only one of his three children, Wingate, continues to have a relationship with him.

Over the next five years Peaslee applies his new found intellectual ability to vast but esoteric research. He also travels to several unusual other-worldly places.

This book is annotated and includes a critical essay and biography about the life and times of H.P. Lovecraft is also included with this book.

Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890-1937), commonly known as H. P. Lovecraft, was an American author known for his works of horror fiction (many of which have been adapted into movies). Having died in obscure poverty, he achieved posthumous fame for his books and stories. Today, he is best known for his take on The Call of Cthulhu.
