Overview

What if you woke up in the middle of an Indian jungle wearing only your boxer shorts, to find that you had complete amnesia? This is exactly what happens to Paul, the free spirited traveler and student of yoga.

While on retreat from their hectic New York City lifestyles, Paul and his friend head into the jungles of India to escape the touristy streets and hike to a nearby waterfall. Deep in the jungle they stop for a swim. Afterward, Paul goes running off alone, finally hopping up on a felled tree to see how far he had gone. Suddenly he slips, smacking his head on a rock below lying unconscious in thick brush, rendering him invisible to any search attempts. The next morning he wakes up with a massive headache and complete amnesia. He is discovered by a couple of small tan monkeys, and realizes that although he doesn’t remember who he is or where he belongs in the world, he has the uncanny ability to speak to animals. Mystical monkeys, magical Babas, a hilarious-egotistical tiger, a beautiful butterfly and lone wolf, are just a few of the many allies that help guide him through this magnificent and dangerous world toward Shambhala-a place where he is told that all of his questions can be answered, including that of the immense suffering he encounters at every turn. Great wisdom brings him deep into his heart and high up into the cold mountains, where alone he risks certain death, to find answers at a place he is not even sure exists.

About the Author

Brian E. Miller is a writer and teacher born and raised on Long Island, New York. Growing up, Brian was always crafting stories, whether written or verbal, exhibiting a passion for storytelling from a very early age. Today his stories invite the reader to view their own lives through the lens of his unique and interesting characters along their journeys. Inspired by the magical places and people Brian has encountered along his own worldwide journeys, he creates stories that are not only fun and engaging but often reflect an underlying truth of humanity. Drawing on the mythology and heroes journey that we all walk in our lives, his teachings and writings entice us to delve deeply into the often dark recesses of the mind, discovering truths that can lead us to a more balanced, harmonious and purposeful life.

After a career working in production for commercial television in New York, Brian’s dreams and ambitions of writing and teaching prompted him to leave it all behind in the midst of the worst recession he had ever known. A leap of faith took him on a journey to India, where he had visited a year prior working on a documentary film and recognizing a deep connection with both the people and the land, he knew he would return. This next trip, however, was taken alone, to travel, write and deepen his studies and practices of Buddhist Psychology and Yoga, both of which he had been a student and practitioner of for many years.

Realizing there are many paths and something to be learned from everyone and everything, Brian teaches from many sources, often drawing on his studies as a teacher and practitioner of Buddhist psychology, yoga and the science of meditation. He has traveled all over the United States and India, amongst other parts of the world, studying with many credible teachers. Brian has discovered through his extensive study of religion, spiritual tradition and philosophy that although there are many teachings, the base of them all is quite similar. He realizes that one’s journey is that of self-exploration and expression and all he can do is be a medium for those wishing to search within for their own Truth.

Brian followed his heart along a fantastic journey with which he still travels today. His current novel, “Shambhala” was inspired by the magical places and people he had encountered along his often arduous and life-transforming trip to India and South East Asia.http://www.brianemillerbooks.com
