Silent'S Teacher

Travel with Hanna Hobbs, newly certified teacher of English as a Foreign Language, as she takes on her first job at a university in Guangzhou, China. Spend that school year with her as she enters a system with very different regulations from the ones she knew back home. With Hanna, meet some of the students and her fellow teachers who are all housed in the same residence building on campus. Witness their daily lives. Watch as an event occurs that leads Hanna to take actions opposed by all those whom she consults, a culture clash from which Hanna is forced to examine the true intent of her work as a teacher. And enjoy the blossoming romance that seems to confirm the idea that absence makes the heart grow fonder.

About the Author

The author was born in Illinois, raised in California. She lived for two decades in New York City or a nearby suburb. But what has most fulfilled her wish to see something of the world are the ten years she has spent living in five countries outside the USA. Two Peace Corps assignments took her to Jack’s Hill, Jamaica, and to Lampang, Thailand. Her last employment in the mid-1990s was in China as a teacher of English language courses. She holds a master of arts degree in international relations.
