Tom Fox is back in court. He's a New Jersey foster-care youth, with a long rap sheet. This time, it's breaking and entering.

He didn't steal anything. He's not a thief. He did drop into a store from its rooftop skylight, but just to see if he could. Because he got bored.

After considering his record, the judge sentences him to an obscure New Hampshire school, for troubled youths.

That begins the strangeness.

Powerful forces vie for him, beyond his understanding. Then, he's abducted, and it's not to this world.

Taken with him are two other foster-care youths, a younger boy, who's a science prodigy, and an angry Goth girl. Together, they face horror.

Sinnabar is a slave world, choking on its own magical red dust. It's ruled by three ice-eyed wizards. Murderous slum gangs infest the city. Out on the wastelands, brigands ride lizards. There's an army, bred and trained to kill.

One other Earthling sneaked to Sinnabar with them-a short-legged dog. Tobi helps. At least, he wants to.

Tom is the group's de facto leader, but-if you're not big-can you be a hero? What if your only superpowers are trick bike riding and climbing the walls of buildings, brick by brick?

This novel asks: if you have no family, can you make one?

And can you ever get home, if you have no home?

Sinnabar may scare you. It may warm you. It may start you thinking about courage, and friendship. It may keep you up past your bedtime.

Here's one reader's reaction to Sinnabar-

"I'm loving this author and can't wait to read another story-Five Stars."

Here's a second reader's evaluation

Outstanding performance!!(Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2019)As a 38-year veteran writing\literature instructor, I could not help but rate this novel highly! The parallel realms come to life as if I were in the theater! Author has uncanny ability to write fantasy fiction that boarders so close to reality. I highly recommend this novel and all others by him. Shirley Harris, M.Ed. Wiggins, MS-FIVE STARS

Here are reactions from two readers on Goodreads, the international on-line book club-

"I loved this action-packed fantasy novel by Richard Wolkomir. I think teens and adults would both enjoy this story and find Tobi the talking Corgi as entertaining as I did!-Five Stars."

"A rollicking good read- John Carter of Mars meets Arabian Nights....Living in Wales I particularly enjoyed the Corgi! Hope Richard writes further books featuring the exploits of Tom and his comrades-Four Stars."
