CHAPTER 1

Flora slammed the screen door and ran to the banyan tree. She was finally back in Key West to visit her friend Suzy Cat. Flora remembered the first time seeing Suzy Cat. She noticed she had six toes on each paw instead of five. "Almost all the cats in Key West are born this way", Suzy explained to Flora.

"What a unique cat you are Suzy", said Flora. "What adventure do you have planned for us today?" asked Flora. "You, me and my kittens are all invited to the wedding of Miss Pencil to Mr. Black Cat", said Suzy Cat. Miss Pencil was a beautiful fluffy orange cat with a white tip on the end of her tail. Oh and of course she was six-toed. "Oh how exiting!" exclaimed Flora. "We must go downtown at once for a wedding gift and pretty new dresses for the kittens to wear".

Later that day, Flora, Suzy Cat, and her two kittens, Key Lime and Kim, strutted down the sidewalk. They were headed for the big mansion where all the six-toed cats in town lived and where the wedding was to take place.

When they arrived at the mansion gate, Mrs. Mock the mockingbird, led them through the garden to the swimming pool where the wedding was to take place. On their way they passed Art the rooster, the local artist, painting a portrait of Miss Pencil and Mr. Black Cat. Miss Pencil was lovely in her gown. She wore a bright red hibiscus behind her ear and a strand of white seashells around her neck. Mr. Black Cat was quite dapper with his hat and cane.

Ernie the lizard watched everything from above on the catwalk. He was writing about the event for the local newspaper. Ernie had a special interest in this story because Mr. Black Cat was his very best friend.

After the wedding was performed and the guests celebrated by dancing it was time for the newlyweds to leave for their honeymoon. So Mr. and Mrs. Black Cat jumped aboard the conch train as it was passing by the mansion.

The conch train took the cats to the town square where Captain Fred was waiting with his shrimp boat. The cats planned a trip to The Dry Tortugas for their honeymoon so they would have to travel by boat. Alfred the Great blue heron led them aboard. They sailed off into a picture perfect Key West sunset as Donna the dolphin followed them out to sea leaping all the way.
