Chapter One

For my mom, who used safety pins for everything and always made me chocolate cake with chocolate frosting for my birthday.

For my dad, who introduced Reuben sandwiches to me at a young age.

For Eric, who shares my love of children's literature and always supports and encourages all of my whims.

Little Minnie Mayver is so skinny that no one calls her Minnie. Everyone calls her Skinny Minnie. She is so entirely skinny that her mother has to put a safety pin in her trousers to hold them up.

Skinny Minnie lives in a skinny, little house ...

... with her skinny, little parents,

her skinny, little sister,

and her not-so-skinny brother.

But Minnie is the skinniest Mayver of the mall.

All three Mayver children have their own pet. Skinny Minnie has a skinny, little whippet dog.

Her skinny, little sister has a skinny, little fish,

and her not-so-skinny brother has a not-soskinny, furry cat.

Skinny Minnie loves to play outside. On warm, sunny days, she swims all day.

She loves to zoom around on her inline skates.

And she enjoys long hikes on trails in the woods with her family.
