SMART STRUCTURES: FROM CONCEPTS TO APPLICATIONS: From Concepts to Applications

This book presents a comprehensive coverage of smart structures, from the basic concepts to a wide spectrum of critical applications, including piezoelectric-based sensors, actuators, and self-sensing actuators. Throughout the book, attempts have been made to develop electrical analogies of the structural/piezoelectric interactions.

The book is organized into seven chapters. The first three chapters cover the basic concepts of structural dynamics, control, piezoelectric actuators, and piezoelectric sensors. The following four chapters cover a wide range of important applications in active vibration control, passive shunted piezoelectric networks, comprehensive piezoelectric energy harvesting technology, and piezoelectric-based periodic and metamaterial structures. Every chapter concludes with several problems.

Contents:

  • Basic Concepts:
    • Basic Concepts of Dynamics and Control
    • Piezoelectric Actuators
    • Piezoelectric Sensors
    • Active Control of Smart Structures
  • Applications:
    • Shunted Piezoelectric Networks
    • Piezoelectric Energy Harvesting
    • Smart Periodic and Metamaterial Structures

Readership: Researchers, Professors and Lectures in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering UG Elective and Graduate courses.

Key Features:

  • The book has included extensive modeling examples of structure/piezoelectric elements by using the commercial finite element software ANSYS, which is one of the most important design tool of multi-field problems
  • The book is also supplemented with an excellent set of power point slides covering the seven chapters
