About the Author

Ever since winning a Butterball turkey in a short story contest in sixth grade, Christy has dreamed of penning novels, memoirs, and children’s books. But first she met other adventures. She earned a degree in English and writing, moved to China to study Mandarin and teach at a university, and then returned to the States where she attended seminary, taught drama and music, and fell in love with a zany youth pastor. After Christy got married, a story grew in her heart, one she felt compelled to share.

I enjoyed the book and at first just thought it was a fun read. But once I realised how the stories tied together it became even more interesting, plus it made me think about the choices we make in life. Chicken lit with a message, loved it.

Snow Out of Season, by Christy Brunke, is a sensitive, heart touching story that deals with the real life issues of marriage, crisis pregnancy, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, abortion, and faith. The author captivates the reader with the emotion of the story on page one and doesn’t let go until long after the book is finished. The two main characters, Leslie and Shannon, at different points in their lives, become pregnant under less than ideal circumstances. Both women are confronted with a choice that will change their lives forever. Each character has individuals in their lives who pose both sides of the question of whether to continue the pregnancy in the face of great personal sacrifice or terminate it. Snow Out of Season takes a dramatic twist that sends the reader on an emotional roller coaster that parallels the one both women must ride in order to play out their individual destiny. The theme that impacted me most is the fact that we are all uniquely individual, and each life is interconnected with any number of others in ways we may not even imagine. Christy Brunke is to be commended for the manner in which she handles the always controversial issue of prolife versus prochoice. I would recommend this book to anyone who has faced the loss of a child, the question of abortion, and/or enjoys books that deal with women’s issues. Actually, I would like to see every young person in America read this book!

What an ending! I was beginning to despair but couldn't wait to see how Snow Out Of Season resolved. It was well worth the read.

I am a avid reader and rarely have been brought to tears when reading a book, as I was with Snow Out of Season. I was so drawn to the characters and the struggle they faced. The story was beautifully written!

I am a 59 year old man who just finished reading "Snow out of Season" I cried. My wife had read it before me. She cried too. We learned that the professional reviewer for Library Journal who had given the book a "Starred Review" and named it "Debut of the Month" in its category had the same "problem". My wife has read hundreds of novels over the years and I never remember her crying over ANY of them. We speculated about the reason. Was it the artful writing? The empathy we were made to feel with the characters? Was it the touching events and emotional scenes that unfolded in the story? Or was it the fact that the gentlest reminders of some of life's sweetest truths and blessings are delicately woven through its pages? You decide - I think I know the answer!

Beautiful novel about two amazing women at different places in their lives. Ms. Brunke's ability to put into words the feelings of each character truly brought them to life. She clearly showed how the lives of everyone around them all played a part in each of their stories. This is a beautiful message to us all. We are not alone in this world and decisions we make affect all those around us. It is a beautiful story of personal struggle, family, friendship, dreams and love. I laughed and cried and just wanted to hug all of my children and the amazing gift they are. Thank you Ms. Brunke for bringing these amazing women and their stories to us all
