Elena Bardot's father has been running a Ponzi scheme that came crashing down. As a result, Elena Bardot has been run out of town by the press and is in hiding. With no place else to go, Elena retreats to a secluded home to finish her dissertation for her Ph.D. This home just happens to be owned by the family of one of her father's co-conspirators. Enter Alex Wolfe. Alex Wolfe is recently released from prison, having been convicted of insider trading. He is seeking a quite life at home in order to regroup from the scandal that ruined his family name. Alex is determined to salvage what is left of his family's businesses and reclaim in rightful place. At first sight Alex knows who Elena is immediately. Although he is angered by her presence he agrees to let her stay to finish her work. The two share an immediate and undeniable connection. Just too bad that connection doesn't include trusting each other. I liked the premise of the book. A sort of misery loves company coupling between two consenting adults. I also liked how we see both points of view in the story. The story progressed nicely. There was no immediate love at first sight. Lust at first sight yes, but no wedding bells were ringing. I was very pleased with the character development. Each had their own misgivings but, through the progression of their relationship, worked through them. I recommend this book and give it four stars. Happy reading smut puppies.

This is the first book that I have read by Kimberly Dean, and definitely a page-turner. I am really looking forward to reading many more of her books. The story kept me in its grasp throughout its entirety, and I could not wait to find out what would happen next. The main characters deal with so many emotions while trying to put their lives back together, and the heated passion that ignites between them whenever they are near each other will make you want to keep reading.  Elena Bardot is being hounded by the media because of the Ponzi schemed her father was part of. She goes to the private estate of the man who was involved in the scheming with her father for the quiet and privacy she desperately needs. The only other person on the estate besides herself is the butler, so her time at Wolfe Manor has been very peaceful. That changes when she sees the man’s grandson has returned home. She wants nothing to do with him. But sometimes we do not get what we want… Alex Wolfe was accused of having a part in the Ponzi scheme and spent a year and a half in jail. Now, he’s home and he’s determined to move on with his life. He did not plan on dealing with Bardot’s daughter. They are pulled toward one another immediately and cannot stop what happens between them. Can they put all their hurt and betrayal behind them and learn to trust? Or have they suffered too much to find love with one another? I won an e-copy of this book through a contest on the author’s website.

Solace in Scandal was a well-written romance novel that held me captivated to the end. It had a hint of angst and mystery and the story moved along smoothly with a nice pacing and I loved the vivid descriptions (e.g. settings) that was provided in the story. Solace in Scandal follows Elena and Alex where we, the reader, gets to witness their romance blossom into a passionate, seductive and romantic relationship. They're both reluctant and knows better to get involved with one another due to what their families did. But, the magnetic pull is strong and they can't resist the sizzling chemistry that is obvious between the two of them. They have both suffered greatly from the backlash of the Ponzi Scheme orchestrated by Elena's father and Alex's grandfather. As much as they want to avoid each other being close in proximity at Wolfe Manor eventually rids them of their reluctance and soon they're finding solace in one another and discovering the real truths about each other. I found Elena and Alex to be likeable and compelling characters. I empathized with them and rooted for them to overcome the obstacles thrown their way. Furthermore, I thought the sex scenes were well described and nicely written. They were sensually erotic, intimate, addictive and carried an abundance of heat behind them. The sex scenes between Elena and Alex were plenty, but varied and nicely spaced out throughout the story. With that, the sex balanced out well with the plot. Or in other words, Solace in Scandal provided sex and plot in equal measure. The plot kept me turning the pages and well before I knew it I finished reading Solace in Scandal in a day. The ending was satisfying – it is just what you would want from a romance novel. I would have loved an epilogue to take the romance a step further, but as it stands, it was a wonderful ending. All in all, Solace in Scandal was a sensual, passionate and romantic story with just an air of mystery to it. I found myself easily drawn to this author's writing style and will be looking more into her other works.
