In this thrilling adventure story we meet Fred Sanders, a six-year-old boy. Fred's biggest dream in life is to become an intergalactic space ranger. Out of boredom, Fred finds himself talking to his dog named Jupiter. He tells Jupiter that he wishes his comic book hero Zando Centauri was there to make things exciting. No sooner had he finished speaking when Zando Centauri arrives in a rocket ship and Fred's exciting intergalactic space odyssey begins. Fred flies off into outer space with Zando. The pair arrive on Jupiter where Fred meets Gandori and helps him with an important shoelace challenge. This delightful space adventure story is perfect for school aged boys and girls. I was impressed with how clever and well written this story is. One can feel the excitement mount when Zando arrives and meets Fred. As a reader, I found this book hard to put down. I was left on the edge of my seat, eager to find out what would happen next. The dialogue in the story is well crafted. The book is also filled with colorful illustrations that enhance the story and help to move the plot along. Young readers who are interested in outer space and space exploration will find themselves completely immersed in this story. I highly recommend Space Ranger Fred and the Shoelace Adventure by Matt Newnham.
