One bright April morning Alyssa and I (Robin) were busy in my kitchen preparing food for a youth event at church. All the windows were open. A gentle breeze cooled us. The television was on in the background, but we weren’t paying much attention. I reached for the remote to turn it off but accidentally changed the channel.

“Oh, wait,” Alyssa said. “Leave it there. I love this part.”

I had happened upon an oldie-but-goodie chick flick at just the right moment. It was one of my favorites too. Alyssa and I stopped what we were doing. We stood together in a sweet silence and watched as the fair maiden ran into the arms of her hero. We
sighed and looked at each other. Alyssa had tears in her eyes. So did I. We pointed at each other and laughed.

“Why are we crying?” I asked. “I’m sure we’ve both seen this a dozen times.”

“I know,” Alyssa said wistfully. “But it’s such a great love story. And love stories get me every time.”

It’s true, isn’t it? Love stories draw us in. Honestly, who doesn’t love a good love story? The pursuit. The suspense. The drama. The mystery. We cry, we laugh, we cheer—all for love. We are captivated by our favorite movies, television shows, and books when the romantic elements capture our imaginations and enliven our hopes.

Even if you don’t see yourself as a girlie girl and didn’t have a favorite Disney princess when you were growing up, you know in your core that you want to be loved like the heroines in all the best films and stories. You want to see love conquer all.

The desire to be loved, cherished, and adored never goes away. All of us long to believe someone is out there who wants us. Someone who will come for us. Someone who will take the role of the hero in our lives and love us, deeply love us, not for what we do or how we look but simply for who we are.

What if you could know that you are loved that intensely? You are sought after. You are the bride-to-be in a love story that’s unfolding in your life right this minute. You are spoken for.

This love story began once upon a time long ago before you were even born. Almighty God, the Creator of the galaxies, thought of you. He carefully fashioned you—your voice, your fingers, your mind, even every one of your eyelashes. He carefully and deliberately crafted you. For all time there only has been and only will be one of you.

He saw all your days before you took your first breath. He knows all your thoughts before you speak them. He knows everything about you. From the very beginning you were known, and you were wanted. He is pursuing you like a tenacious bridegroom
with a perfect proposal. He has set his affections on you. Why? Because he loves you, and he will never stop loving you. You are his first love, and he wants you back.

How do you respond to such unwavering, unending, unstoppable love?

In this book we will unwrap the ancient truths from God’s Word about what it means to be loved, to be sought after, to be spoken for. You will see how the Bible is a love letter written to us.

Through that love letter God makes it clear that he desires to be with us forever. Alyssa and I will share details from forever-love stories and show how our love for God grew as he pursued us.

Our goal is simple. We want you to see what happens when you respond to the invitation of the true Bridegroom and step into the center of an epic love story—yours.

GRAB YOUR HIGHLIGHTER!! THIS IS A GEM! This book is SOOOO good! Make sure you have a highlighter and pen because you will use it!! From the very first few pages to the end of the book--I have highlighted and marked up. When I have a book that is completely marked in, I know have a treasure on my hands!! This book speaks to the single, married, happily-married, divorced and separated. It took me awhile to understand and grasp the fact that there is no man on earth who can fulfill our needs, wants, and desires the way our Lord can!! I have been on an amazing walk with God these past few years thanks to my divorce and the Lord has been showing me He is what I have longed for my whole life. This book helped cement that in stone for me. Not only is it impossible to put this heavy task on a man, it is unfair. We are very imperfect people, incapable of meeting someone else's deepest need of wanting to be loved and cherished beyond human control. We can't give another human being everything they need and desire, and no one can do that for us, only our perfect Lord can. I absolutely LOVE this book. Robin and Alyssa share stories from their own lives--doing what every woman I know has done--giving the men in our lives too much control over our emotions and happiness. I have been a girlfriend, a wife, a divorcee, and a very broken girl. I learned through that heartache and desire that only one person can fulfill in me what was so empty. Jesus wants to be the One you turn to--not only when you are lonely, but when you are content. The authors did a beautiful job of reiterating what I have come to know and love about our Lord. We belong to Christ, He pursues us, wants us, and makes it so unbelievably clear through His word. He is enough, He is so good--all of the time and when we ask, he manifests Himself in ways that are remarkably beautiful!! And He is crazy in love with us! Waterbrook Publishing provided me with a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Robin Jones Gunn and Alyssa Joy Bethke are two wonderful authors that did an amazing job of speaking to each one of us in a special way. After reading this book, I have a better view about what it means for me to follow Christ, and how I can draw on His promises in my life. These two ladies truly share what it is like to live out God’s unfolding love story in our lives. I can’t say enough about Spoken For, because there is just so much in this book that you need to read for yourself! It’s just not possible to explain how it is, you just can’t get the real meaning without reading it. So I tell each one of you, go and buy this book! You will not be disappointed! What a great pleasure it was to read Spoken For by co-authors Robin Jones Gunn and Alyssa Joy Bethke. The subtitle, embracing who you are and whose you are, encapsulates what the book is about. In each chapter, both Robin and Alyssa, share from scripture about what God thinks about you as a child of God and the bride of Christ. The chapters tell you are wanted by God, pursued by Him, loved, have been called, are of great value, a peculiar treasure, set free, covered, promised and spoken for. What I especially appreciated about the book is how transparent both authors were about what we feel inside about our worth, desires and insecurities. They openly shared and were vulnerable about painful times in their own lives that included rejection, loneliness and the resulting pain that doesn’t go away and can continue to impact us years down the road. There are some real gems of wisdom in this book. I wish I had this book when I was a new Christian and learned to see myself through God’s eyes and not through the broken mirror of this world. I highly recommend this book for young Christian women, teenagers, and even older women. Goodness knows we don’t escape this life without incurring much pain. I think this book can be used to begin healing the scars from the past and helping girls and women to make better choices because they can have confidence in who they are in Christ. As I was reading Spoken For, I thought of a number of girls and women who could benefit from this book. Don’t just buy one copy, but get a second copy because you will want to pass it along. Spoken For is a book I will definitely read again. I would like to thank the people at Blogging for Books for supplying me with a copy of Spoken For to read in exchange for an honest review. I was under no obligation to give a favorable review.

Have you ever had the desire to be wanted, pursued, loved, called, valued, treasured, freed, covered, promised... spoken for?! I know I sure have and still do, and for all of the females reading this post-- you know exactly what I am talking about. The Lord has purposefully created us this way, and He longs to be the One to fulfill these desires. The only question that remains is... "Will you let Him?" For the next few moments I want to dive into Spoken For: Embracing Who You Are and Whose You Are.  I do not believe that Robin Gunn and Alyssa Bethke could have done a better job on this book... from the beginning until the ending, I was hooked. It wasn't because of the flowery words or the attention grabbing stories, although this was all present; it was because of their heart-- literally piercing through every word on the page. They know that we as God's children struggle with these desires and how to fulfill them and they weren't afraid to tackle the challenge and bear their hearts to us. As mentioned earlier, God created us with desires. These desires, though, when left unchecked can seriously harm our relationship with Christ because we look to fulfill them in all the wrong places! When we give these desires fully over to our Savior, who knows us best, it is then that we can grow and mature our desires that He has created us with. We ladies have a longing to be wanted, pursued, loved, spoken for-- yes! And that is OK!! We shouldn't lock away the desires that God created us with, but we need to know how to fulfill them righteously. Gunn and Bethke take the time to show us that their is One who wants to fulfill these desires in our life, not only does He want to He longs to! Sadly, the one thing standing in His way is YOU and I!  Reader-- pick up this book as quickly as you can! Not only do the authors share with us personal experiences throughout this book, but they share Biblical principals that back up what they are writing about! The choice is yours... Will you continue looking to be fulfilled in all the wrong places or will you give yourself fully to God, the One who knows you best and wants you to be His forever?! A great romance was set in motion before you were born. A relentless Lover is pursuing you, and He has made His intentions clear. He wants you to be His forever. How will you respond to the One who longs for you to be His with your whole heart? Blogging for Books provided this book to me for free in exchange for an honest review.

Valued Higher Than Gold Our life is a love story, and God is our pursuer.  This relatively short, easy to read book is small, but it is full of big ideas concerning our worth, importance and value to God.  This volume compares our relationship with God to that of a beloved bride who is cherished by her husband. The book is written by two women, who give their perspectives and experiences in relationships.  Robin has been married many decades, while Alyssa is a newlywed.  They share situations in relationships that were bad, as well as, wonderful ones.  They tell of their experiences with God, and His pursuit of them–and us all.   The two describe how wonderful relationships can be when God is included. The authors state that bad relationships can cause our self-worth to plummet.  Those negative feelings can live on, even into good relationships with someone else.  We need to understand that all of us are highly valued; God adores each one of us.  Many scriptures are given that show the deep love, and high regard God has for us all. I really enjoyed this book, and it is very readable.  There are questions at the end of each chapter that cause you to think more about the subjects covered.  The true stories were very interesting, and brought home the points the authors were making.  Ultimately, we need to get our self-worth from God, and not from those around us.  This book will help the reader understand that God loves us deeply.  He wants to have an awesome love story with each one of us, and be a part of all our relationships.  If anyone has ever felt bad about themselves, or disappointed in a relationship, I recommend they read this 5-star book. The publisher has provided me with a complimentary copy of this book through   WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group’s Blogging for Books for the purpose of review. All opinions expressed are my own, and I have not been compensated in any other manner.

This book was truly amazing. I loved every second of it. Alyssa and Robin share a lot of life experiences and how they turned to God. They helped remind me what God says about me. I learned a lot about the Lord I didn’t know and I’m very thankful for those lessons. I loved the questions at the end of each chapter, they’d be great if you read this book in a group setting. I related more to Alyssa’s stories because she and I are close in age and I’ve experienced some of the same things she has. I enjoyed Robin’s stories as well though. Robin has a lot of wisdom. I just the love the overall message of this book. It talks about who we are and whose we are. It’s a perfect book for a young girl/young adult. I would recommend this book for girls ages 13 and up. It may be harder for younger girls to understand but every girl needs to read it. I will cherish this book forever. I love it. I received this book for free from Waterbrook Multnomah Publishing in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own and I was not paid to say anything.

Spoken For Embracing Who You Are and Whose You Are By: Robin Jones Gunn and Alyssa Joy Bethke Every teenage girl should read this book! And adults too. This is the book to read. Do you realize how much God loves us? Do you understand how much he wants to spend time with us? While reading this book, I came to understand that God pursues us. He draws us to him, because he loves us so much. Are you looking for someone who will take the role of the hero in your life and love you, deeply love you, not for what you do or how you look, but simply for who you are? This is the book to read to fully understand God’s love for us. Feelings of being unwanted, lonely, unlovable, unworthy, these feelings are felt in earthly relationships. But God pursues us, the man he had handcrafted so meticulously from the earth’s dust and the woman he had sculpted so precisely from Adam, for Adam. He wants us, he loves us, and he cherishes us. After each chapter is a list of questions to work through to deepen the points made in that chapter. Also, there is a list of verses from the Bible What God Says About You. My favorite one: My thoughts toward you are as countless as the grains of sand on the seashore (Psalm 139:17-18). He thinks about us, and not just occasionally. More times than we can count! The choice is up to you. Will you accept God’s love today? The moment you believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior and begin to follow him, he sets you free from sin, selfishness, wrath, eternal separation from God, mistakes, guilt, shame, and your past so you can live fully for Him. This book is written for teenage girls, but anyone can learn so much from it. I caught myself crying several times while reading. Life is hard, relationships can tear us down, but once we accept God’s love for us, we get to live out God’s unfolding love story. I received this book free from Blogging For Books in exchange for an honest review.
