I think I got used to the idea of a strong and tough female lead in this series because in book one, that's what we received with Melanie. I loved her tough as nails character because while she didn't take any crap, she was still feminine as hell. To go from that to Ria, well I was sadly disappointed. I didn't really like her character, I felt like she was loyal to all the wrong people. She would have rather been loyal to her two dead brothers that did nothing but bully and bring pain and misery to others lives than to her cousin and lover who actually protected her and her mother. Yeah her cousin is the head of a cartel but he loved her nonetheless. Her lover, Nicholas, was a pompass, arrogant, ass and tried to protect her in a misguided way but he did it out of love as well, she was just either to stupid to realize it or just blinded by wrongly placed loyalty to two brothers whom were already dead. Either way, I don't understand how someone as weak as she seemed to be was able to pull off being an EMT and then later a paramedic. Nicholas wasn't any better, he was arrogant in the first book and he was still arrogant in this book as well. I didn't care for his character all that much either. SR
