Overview

Twenty-year-old Caroline Ashby lives peacefully in the rolling foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Fauquier County, Virginia. But in April 1861, Virginia votes to secede, plunging the state into a tragic era of history: the War Between the States. Caroline�s desire for peace is dashed as family and friends are drawn into devastating combat. About the Author

Eileen Kern Goodman was born and raised in historical Winchester, Virginia, located in the northern Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Surrounded from an early age by history and local folklore, she delved into the region's past and became an avid student of the Civil War. She and her husband moved to Fauquier County in 1977, and for over twenty years she participated with her son in living history, her playing the role of Caroline Ashby. She has performed in the TV mini-series North and South, and has been filmed in documentaries such as The Divided Union. Presently she works in Spotsylvania County as an elementary school instructional reading para-educator, and writes books for classroom use. This is her first novel.
