In 20s London, Betty 'The Fighting American' is the capital's number one wrestler. But even at the top, life is not sweet. Burdened with large debts she finds employment with a local gangster. What should be a simple trip to Liverpool, escorting the "worst person in England", rapidly degenerates into chaos. Betty finds herself drawn into an underground war between two bizarre factions. It is not long before she is fighting for her life, pursued through the countryside by strange creatures, desperate to solve the riddle of what is going on.

Events hurtles forward as Betty fights her way through a tangled web armed only with her toughness, stubbornness and the redoubtable Jelly.
