Though Stretched Too Thin is marketed toward working moms, as a work-from-home homeschooling mom I also found it to be indispensably valuable at this time in my life. Life just gets busier and busier, especially as kids get older and everyone is going in a different direction. Why is it always us moms who take on all the guilt? I think it is because we are used to putting everyone else first and feeling responsible for the overall environment of our homes. And the busier our families get, the more things pile up, and we truly do begin to feel stretched to the breaking point. The worst part isn't the endless to do list--it's the feelings of guilt, failure, and not doing enough that are the most difficult. Jessica Turner's book is truly a source of encouragent, but it goes beyond that with practical steps and ideas. Not all of Jessica's tips are for everyone. However, no matter what your situation is, there are solutions for many of those things that stretch us too thin. It made me feel like someone really "gets" it to read Jessica's chapters on self care, creating the home you love, discovering your feelings, and cultivating your marriage. Among other topics Jessica discusses, these really gave me the inspiration I needed to understand some things that are causing me more stress than necessary. Stretched Too Thin is exactly what I needed, and is for anyone who, like me, wants to be freed from the guilt of letting some things go, while realizing that you can be a working mom and still have a striving family life. As part of Jessica's launch team, I was able to read an advance copy of this book. I am recommending it to all of my mom friends.

Even though I am no longer a working mom, I learned so much from this book! I remember the days of feeling guilty of not spending enough quality time with my children. I remember feeling exhausted trying to stay on top of it all. I still sometimes feel that way, and I don't have a job outside of the home. This book will help you realize you're not alone mama. It will give you tips on how to juggle your home life, personal life, and work life and not feel like you're stretched too thin. It will show you it's ok to say no sometimes. I highly recommend this book for all the working mamas out there! **I received this book for review. I was not required to write a positive review, and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

If anyone was qualified to write this book, it is the author, Jessica Turner. On top of a full-time marketing job, she is a writer, blogger, and mother to 3 small children. She shares throughout the book how she doesn't do it all seamlessly and that is what makes the book so beautiful. But Jessica does not only rely on her personal experience of being "Stretched Too Thin". She interviewed hundreds of women as well as experts in various fields to validate the feeling that no working mom is alone in feeling the day-to-day struggle of having it all. The best part? "Stretched Too Thin" releases us from believing we need to do it all perfectly while sacrificing our own sanity. (Because, spoiler alert: we don't!) I love that this book not only gives practical advice on ways to manage topics such as friendships, marriage, getting organized, etc and how every positive change can impact your overall happiness in the workplace and the home. The chapter on self-care will hit home for a lot of women- it did for me. It discussed the stress we put on ourselves to do everything for everyone else but neglect our own well being in the process. How neglecting self-care not only hurts your family and work but most of all, you. Physically, mentally, and emotionally. There are countless ways to achieve self-care and Jessica offers ways to incorporate it back into your life. One of my favorite parts of the book was a personal snippet Jessica shared about feeling the pressure to bring homemade goods to a school bake fair- only to show up and find out that most of the people had purchased the baked goods at the store (YES! This was me last year! Killed myself baking homemade cookies to see endless containers of store-bought items at the bake sale) We do not need to be Pinterest Perfect- that is not a reality to reach for. I highly recommend this book to any working mom. The overall message of creating a life where you are thriving at work and at home, rather than just surviving, is one every working mom should live by. Although this book is marketed for working moms, as an empty-nester, I am still motivated and inspired by its encouraging message. We all have demands and responsibilities in our lives no matter our age or circumstances, and can overcome the feelings of being stretched too thin. Great inspiration. This book has tons of information. Tons. There’s a bullet point for everything. I could relate to a lot of the things the author wrote about. I bet most women could relate to a lot in the book. But while encouraging, the book lacked something. I have a hard time putting my finger on it. It was a total self-help book... I was overwhelmed by the do this and don’t do this. It was a huge list and I almost felt guilty for not being able to do a lot of the things she suggests to take the load off. The motivation at the center of most of the care seemed to be all self. What about God? I felt like he was an after thought in this book. Maybe my expectation was too high. The information was mostly legit but I failed to connect with it and was left rather discouraged by the sheer volume of things I needed to stop doing or start doing. I received a copy of this book from Revell. I was under no compulsion to write a positive review. All thoughts are my own.

Geared towards working moms but really any mom, whether working inside the home or out, can find some useful takeaways. At the end of 2018 I was wrecked. I was tired, utterly depleted in mental capacity and physically hurting ALL OVER. Over the holidays I had a good three weeks off but that first week, oh my goodness, that first week was spent healing. I had all the things to do (shop for holiday parties, meals, gifts) but I could not function. I finally told myself that it had to wait and wait it did. I slept, It helped but didn’t fix me like I thought it would. It actually took days of rest, careful eating, and a lot of vitamins to feel somewhat normal. That’s why at the beginning of the year, I picked up Stretched Too Thin. A podcast I was listening to mentioned the book and then I decided to following Jessica Turner on Instagram. This book called to me, for obvious reasons. Now, a little about the book. It’s short and simple and hits on all the trouble spots that us moms fall into. Working too much, over scheduling ourselves, not building in time for self-care and the like. Each chapter covers a specific area of focus, and then includes a workbook portion where you write down responses and begin to pick apart how you’ve been living and what you can do better. I will say this, Stretched Too Thin did not tell me anything new but it gave me permission to focus on myself for once. I would have preferred to have the workbook portions at the end of the book so that I could have focused on each short chapter without having to stop to answer questions. I felt that the format made it a little choppy but I liked the voice behind the message. Ms. Turner is very genuine and real. She has lived the “stretched too thin” life and doesn’t want anyone else to fall into that trap. I think this is an important book because it really does remind you that life can be lived a different way. You do not have to run from appointment to appointment. You have choices. This is where I am now. I’ve been changing some things around to make my life more serene and less chaotic and besides this week of the show, I’ve been improving and tweaking and even allowing myself time to investigate other passions.

When I heard the words "working mom", I didn't immediately put myself in that category, because I don't actually get up every morning, put on work clothes, drop my kids off, and go "to work". But I've been working from home (albeit part-time) for almost 5 years now, and I struggle big-time with balance and keeping all the plates spinning and the things done and the people happy. So, I decided to give it a shot and apply to be a part of the launch team for Jessica Turner's new book, Stretched Too Thin (the title is certainly relatable!). I finished the book last week, and I truly felt understood. Jessica's words emboldened and empowered and inspired me to stop letting life "happen" to me. The book is research and data-driven, and bears no shortage of anecdotes, both from "experts" in different areas, as well as the true experts (you know, the moms who are on the front lines and stretched as thin as the rest of us). If you're a mom, no matter how you categorize yourself (working mom, stay-at-home mom, work-from-home mom), this book has something for you.

Stretched Too Thin by Jessica Turner is a book loaded with encouragement for us moms in the thick of it. Juggling all that life throws at you while trying to be intentional with your family time can seem overwhelming to say the least. This book offers practical and useful tools to help you manage it all. The author interviewed Moms in all walks of life to find out what is central to the struggle we all face - how to keep everyone and everything afloat. She then uses the information she gathered to give us solutions to help with some of the problems we face everyday. I was very encouraged to read that I was not alone, we all struggle with some of the same things: guilt, weariness, and isolation. The practical advice in this book has given me tools to combat the guilt and be more productive. Work smarter, not harder you know?! I am so glad I read Stretched Too Thin, I hope you will too!

I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of the audio book...which is probably the best way to read this if you're stretched too thin! Listened to the whole thing on my commute. Very useful tips and some chapters I wish there were more personal anecdotes and less quotes from "experts", but maybe that translates better in the hard copy book. All in all, a very encouraging book for working moms who constantly feel the push and pull of being "everything to everyone".

I was able to participate in the launch team for Stretched Too Thin by Jessica N. Turner. I listened to it on audiobook downloaded on Christian Audio app on my phone and was encouraged by her honesty and the constant theme giving moms permission to be their genuine self while recognizing ways to change schedules to avoid burn out and be happier. The author herself narrated the audiobook version. She is adorable and has small comments that aren't in the print book but really make it feel like a conversation with a girlfriend. Each person's strengths, talents, abilities, and motivations as well as family dynamics and lifestyles are going to be different, and that is okay! It isn't about keeping up with the Joneses or ways to cram more unnecessary obligations. By focusing on what is individually important and tracking where/what you spend time doing simple changes can have a drastic impact. I was a single mom both working and going to college when I first had children. I got married 11 years ago and was able to be a stay-at-home mom until our youngest went to Kindergarten then I re-entered the workforce starting off part time and eventually full time. I am super guilty of comparing our house, kids, stuff with others who seem to be so much more put together. Its easy to get stressed out while juggling everyone's carpool needs, appointments, practices, while maintaining the house and family needs. I still feel guilty sometimes because I love my job, but something has to give. Often times that means self-care or my marriage. I have personally felt stretched too thin often since being a mother. Jessica offers wonderful advice to all women, despite what your life looks like and reminds me what is most important, and its not trying to be Pinterest Perfect.

When I went back to work after having my daughter, I desperately looked for resources to help me. Something to encourage, give me tips on how the heck to do it all, and to relate to how I felt. I felt alone and stressed constantly. I didn't find anything. So I JUMPED on this book and it delivered exactly what I needed. It's relate-able, with actionable advice to support mommas (especially working ones, but would apply to anyone). I love her advice for self-care, friendships, your marriage and also excelling at work. You NEED this book.

"Stretched Too Thin" is a helpful resource for working moms who struggle to keep all the plates spinning in their lives. Jessica Turner has been there--she's a mom in the trenches who offers another way to deal with the constant struggle--prioritizing, delegating and accepting "just enough" some days. There are worksheets at the end of each chapter that help you process through what you've just read and apply her suggestions to your unique situation. I found there was much good food for thought and the book is laid out in a way that no mom should feel judged. It reads like a helpful conversation with someone who understands the constant demands on a working mom's time. Jessica writes in a way that is both intelligent and honest, along with speaking some hard truths with grace and care. She has interviewed many other working moms, authors and speakers to mine a wealth of knowledge that she puts to good use in the book. This would be a great gift for a working mom who is trying to be "all things to all people," while working on her career, keeping a home, having a thriving marriage, etc. That way of thinking leads to more bad than good, and "Stretched Too Thin" not only explains the why, but shows the how to escape this mindset. I enjoyed Jessica's perspective and will be passing a copy of this book on to some Mamas I feel could benefit from it. I received an advanced reader copy from Revell and chose to review. I wish this book had been around six years ago when I was a brand-new working mama struggling with postpartum hormones and all the ambivalent feelings surrounding going back to work: exhaustion, overwhelm, anticipation, excitement, sadness, loneliness, guilt. I wish I had had a mentor, someone to tell me it was okay to love my family and my job and show me practical ways to nurture all the various aspects of my life without also losing myself in the process. Even as I've grown as a wife, mom, and employee, I still struggle. Jessica Turner draws on her own experience as a working mom as well as copious research to give readers helpful perspective on our roles at home and work, as well as tools to help us thrive in the areas we struggle most. This book is a breath of fresh air. Thanks to Jessica, I feel seen and understood, encouraged and equipped. In her words, I am ready to "thrive and live well!"

Jessica does it again. Her books are relatable, important, and impeccably researched. I’ll be pushing this one into the hands of every working mom I know! But the caveat here is that you don’t need to be a working mom to get a lot from this book. Jessica tackles taking care of your marriage well, parenting your kids well, and prioritizing self-care in this book. Perhaps if, like me, no one pays you a paycheck, you might not get a ton out of how to ask for telecommuting options or managing that part of work-life balance, but lots of it is applicable even if you are “just” a volunteer somewhere!

In "Stretched Too Thin," the author provides encouragement and motivation to working moms who feel overwhelmed by the demands of life. Each chapter looks at the different aspects (kids, marriage, friends, self-care, etc) that moms have to balance each day. The author provides examples from her own life, as well as reassurance and suggestions for ways to handle it all (which, she reminds us, sometimes means not handling something ourselves). She does not pretend that this book is a solution for being able to "do it all." She is very real and honest, and encourages moms to set realistic expectations about how much we can do with the schedule and resources we have. I found it to be very validating. Each chapter concludes with questions to help the reader personally apply the material they just read. These reflections allow the reader to process the information and set goals in her own life. I loved this practical application aspect. While the book was written for working moms, I would also suggest it to moms returning (or considering a return) to the workforce. It covers areas that someone may not consider when mentally preparing for that transition. I received an advance reader copy from the publisher.

As a mom who freelances while her three kids are in elementary school, I read Jessica Turner’s book because “stretched too thin” feels like the definition of my days when I would like to describe only a few of my days. This book takes a 360° review of your working mom life and helps you pinpoint the problem areas. But, Jessica Turner doesn’t stop at diagnosis. She gives practical put-the-book-down-and-try-immediately advice. I didn’t have many aha moments while reading the book, but so many “AMEN sister” moments I lost count! This book not only made me realize that I’m not alone in my journey but I need to reach out to my other working moms friends because I’m definitely not the only one struggling. Favorite Quotes: - Know this: you are a great mom. - While work might limit your experiences of being present, it doesn’t eliminate them. - We are not meant to do things alone. Asking for help is not just OK; it is necessary. - Mental and emotional self-care isn’t a privilege. It’s a necessity.

This new book by Jessica Turner is fantastic. I had access to the audio version as a part of the launch team and listened to it in just days. I honestly loved everything about this book and ordered 10 more copies on pre-order to give away as gifts to family, friends and teachers. The messages and ideas in the book are simple and yet profound. She uses stories from her own life and backs it up with statistical data to show working women how to find ways to lose the guilt and thrive in their work, home and personal life. Every working mom should read this book!

All mothers are working mothers but this book speaks especially to those who also work outside of the home. The subtitle of this book is "how working moms can lose the guilt, work smarter, and thrive" and it fulfills this promise. Author Jessica N. Turner offers advice to mothers on how to care for themselves both physically, mentally and spiritually and there are many suggestions on balancing the have-to-do jobs with the want-to-do tasks. I loved that she mentions that 'Pinterest perfect is not real life'. When I was growing up there was a common comparison of real mothers versus 'June Cleaver mothers with their pearls' and today we often tend to think that our lives should be worthy of pins on a Pinterest board. This book is a mixture of great advice and humorous anecdotes from various sources and at the end of each chapter there is a space to jot down our reflections on what we have just read. There is also a Weekly Time Tracker section at the end of the book to keep a record of our daily activities. Every bit of advice that Jessica N. Turner shares may not apply to all mothers but there is certainly something for everyone who reads it and I can definitely say that this book isn't just for young working mothers. I personally found it to be very useful because I am a retired grandmother who is now finding myself in a parenting role again. I myself often feel "stretched too thin" and I know that I'm not the only older person who is experiencing this. The author offers many insightful observations and I especially like how she choose to sum up her thoughts at the end. She reminds us that Everything is a season---Your work is a blessing, not a burden, to your family---Pinterest perfect is not real life---Your most important relationship is with your husband---You are a great mom. This book was a beautiful writing and compelling reading. This book will going a long ways with helping mom explored the other ways to get out from their struggles to be being a mom in her everyday life but this book will making you enjoyable and bring back to be a happiness mom again. I've followed Jessica Turner since her BK [before kids] days I've loved watching her grow into the mom she is today! I've also enjoyed seeing her work really hard to carve out her niche on social media as she encourages other working moms to be their best selves - This is her second book and I know you'll love it as much as I do! She gives practical tips on how working moms can be there for their kids and family, carve out times for themselves, and still get it all done without going completely crazy! #stretchedtoothin

Stretched Too Thin hits the heart of where nearly every working mom struggles -- the guilt that we're never doing enough. I love that the author is real and authentic in her own journey as a working mom. She addresses not only our emotional struggles (including mom guilt), but also the practical struggles working moms face. Chapters focus on topics such as self-care, work life, home life, marriage, parenting, friendship, and so much more. There's an acknowledgement of the challenges, but the author quickly shifts to easy-to-apply advice. She also asks questions at the end of each chapter to help us process and move forward with more clarity and purpose. While the book is published by a Christian publisher, a Christian faith message isn't embedded throughout. Rather, it's included briefly as one small component of one chapter, where spiritual practices are discussed as an important part of self-care. Readers looking for a more in-depth conversation around incorporating God into their life as a working mom may be disappointed to find that it's not a central part of the book. I'll admit I found myself in that camp at times. However, readers who prefer lots of practical tips from a more neutral faith perspective will like the author's approach. All in all, my disappointment on the faith front doesn't outweigh the fact that this book is a much-needed resource. Each chapter gave me new practical ideas to improve my life at work and at home. Definitely worth reading!
