I fell in love with Michael Beas', Strump: A World of Shadows. An epic fantasy, the first in a series, it delivered action, adventure and thrills throughout. This book came to me at a perfect time, and I thoroughly appreciated the escapism it offered. Prince's Gorgan and Alexander's struggles had me hooked right from the beginning. With characters that included Sorcerers, Mice, Merpeople and Pixies, I found this work highly interesting and Beas' detailed world building and written scenes had me envisioning the tale on the big screen. The action kept me on the edge of my seat and I must admit to becoming totally absorbed in this intricate story which details the horrors of deception, greed, and lust for power- this tempered by a strong theme throughout, highlighting the values of humility, wisdom, justice and the powerful and tenacious pursuit of truth. Inspired by the magical game of Strump, the Shadow Lord is intent on uniting the magical pieces of the board in pursuit of ultimate power. He exploits the weakness of key players to further his aims in wickedly superb style. Lord Kavardas gave me chills! This book is a classic good versus evil treat for all Fantasy lovers. A Tolkein style adventure, it is written in an accessible manner that I would recommend to all Fantasy lovers from older teens upwards.

An Imaginative Fantasy Novel One of my favorite nightly pastimes is reading to my son before bedtime and so I'm always on the lookout for imaginative, well-written  and entertaining books for up to dive into... and ''Strump: A World of Shadows'' certainly met that challenge. Michael Alexander Beas has a talent for capturing your imagination (whether you're young or old) and taking you on an epic adventure of magic, honor, duty, danger and a bid to keep one kingdom safe from the mechanisms of an evil villain. The story really has a lighthearted yet dramatic tone that sucks in the reader and makes you eager to keep on flipping the page as the two brothers fight alongside the beings in their kingdom (both Man and Other) trying to keep it safe from a man who would stop at nothing to see it all to ruin.  This is a large, sweeping fantasy novel that sparks the imagination with vivid imagery, strong dialogue, authentic characters and a fantastically fast-paced plot. Mr. Beas uses his gift for storytelling and world-building to adds layer upon layer to this story, never stopping in making this a tale that grabs your attention and keeps it long after the story is over. As an introduction to the author and the series I think this was a very promising start.

Me and my kids loved this book. We were looking for a book to fill the shoes of Harry Potter and Narnia and this did it. Recommend to any young adult but good enough to keep mom and dad interested.
