About the Author

Beth Carpenter grew up on a farm reading everything she could get her hands on, from cereal boxes to the encyclopedia. Saturday visits to the library were the highlight of her week. Due to motion sickness, she couldn't read on the school bus so she made up her own stories instead.

She still consumes books like popcorn and loves to create happy endings for her imaginary friends. She believes dogs, books, and laughter are key to happiness. And dark chocolate. And love.

Sweet Home Alaska will leave you with a warm heart and a smile on your face … and maybe travel plans to the gorgeous setting. Scott, Volta, and Emma are smartly-drawn characters with gentle but strong spirits who will quickly take up residence in your heart. You’ll feel the emotions of the story along with them, and you’ll cheer them on from that surprise reunion in the delivery room to the satisfying conclusion. (You may want to purse whomp Scott on occasion but stick with him. I promise.) If you love a gorgeous setting, great characters, and a little bit of adventure mixed in with your romance, this series – and Sweet Home Alaska – is for you! (I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)

This is the second book of Beth Carpenter's five-book Northern Lights series that I have read. Each title definitely works as a standalone and is unique to the featured couple. I'm attracted to the stories that take place up north. This one starts out with a lot of drama that reminded me almost of a TV movie trying to catch your attention right off the bat. Volta works emergency medical cases, and they are transporting a pregnant woman about to give birth to twins, suffering from high blood pressure, to the hospital. Only the volcano has erupted, meaning they are going to have to do some improvisation and are temporarily stranded in the town. And who happens to be there for a medical study but Volta's ex-boyfriend Scott, the one who got away and shattered her heart into a million pieces many years ago. I admit that all of this happening up front felt a little in my face at first and I was taken aback. But then as the story started to unfold, I grew more attached to finding out how this second chance romance was going to play out. And of course when you are up in Alaska, a lot of these types of medical emergencies and natural incidents are going to play out. It's just not something I am as familiar with in New York. Volta and Scott have never quite gotten over each other, though there was good reason for them to part. Each one of them has gone on to do amazing things with their lives. And you are definitely not the same person that you were 10 years ago. People grow and change and their dreams and goals also evolve. Volta is adamant about protecting her own heart, as well as that of her darling daughter. Scott is struggling to admit he needs a change in his life. And you find yourself rooting for them to work it all out, in spite of people who stand in their way. (I'm looking at you, Stacy, aka Volta's sister-in-law, who just needs a kick in the arse.) It's another enjoyable read, that I'm giving 3.5 stars to this time around. I still want to read more in the series and by Beth Carpenter in general. I received a complimentary copy of this book and gave a voluntary and honest review. I was not required to give a positive review.

When I was given the opportunity to read the fifth installment from Beth Carpenter’s series, Northern Lights, I knew I had to take it. I enjoyed the last book in the series, An Alaskan Proposal, and Sweet Home Alaska did not disappoint. I loved this book! It tells the story of Dr Scott Willingham coming to Alaska to find his ex-girlfriend, Volta Morgan. He intended to find closure but finds himself intrigued and attract to her more than ever. Especially, when he meets her sweet little daughter, Emma. Can he tell Volta goodbye one last time? How will Volta react to seeing him again after all of these years? I would give Sweet Home Alaska one hundred stars if I could. I highly recommend this book for readers who love a sweet, clean, and heartwarming story of second chances, forgiveness and redemption. I have got to read the other books in this series. I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

Sweet Home Alaska by Beth Carpenter was a delightful read. Volta and Scott had a romantic past. It had ended because Scott didn’t think he could keep a long term relationship with his job. He planned to be a doctor that traveled around the world. Volta’s heart had been broken by falling in love with Scott in the past. She tries to keep from falling for Scott again. He doesn’t show up in Alaska on accident though. He wants to talk through with her the bad break up from the past to feel better in the present. Scott and Volta both try and fail to keep their emotions from falling for each other again. The story takes place in Alaska which is like a different world for me, a Texas girl. I don’t like snow, but reading about the unique beauty of Alaska and the adventures makes me want to travel there. Volta’s daughter is a sweet addition to the story. I enjoy reading books with growing family love. The story had more slow and unneeded scenes than I prefer, but I still enjoyed the sweet love story. It’s a clean romance with heart pumping moments. Enjoy reading Sweet Home Alaska. Content Ratings: Sexual: mild (kissing) Language: none Violence: none Other: mild (beer/alcohol on occasion) I received this book from Prism Book Tours. I am not paid for my reviews. My reviews are solely my opinion.

Sweet Home Alaska Such a fun story with Emma, who is Volta daughter. I would have never thought of horseback riding in Alaska. Scott comes to town to work on a project with Volta. They knew each other years ago. He broke up with her because of his job. She married but ended up a widow. I enjoy books that are set in Alaska. This one is a lot different than most. I received a advanced copy of the book from the author and Prism book tours. I was not required to write an positive review.

With Scott & Volta's history & Scott's current job, they had a lot of obstacles to overcome. Emma's aunt Stacy sure didn't help matters! Volta had wonderful support from family & friends that's so important for a single mom. Alaska sounds like such a beautiful place. Another wonderful book by Beth Carpenter.

Sweet Home Alaska is a sweet, clean, second chance romance between Volta, a paramedic and widow, and Scott, a world travelling doctor. These characters still have chemistry 10 years later. Can this globe trotting doctor and a mother find a compromise that will allow them to stay together? The story immediately drew me in and kept my attention. I loved the descriptions of pre-natal care and medical emergencies in remote locations of Alaska. I always learn a lot from Ms. Carpenter's books. This book is a must read for anyone who loves a good, clean romance.

This is the second story I’ve read in the Northern Lights series. I really like Beth Carpenter’s writing style. I love the Alaskan setting and how she makes Alaska so much a part of the story. She really brings to light not only the beauty of Alaska, but also some of the challenges people go through due to its vast size and low population count. I can’t even imagine living in a place that is not connected to the road system! One of my favorite tropes is second chance at love. Scott and Volta have been separated for 10 years, when they reunite in Alaska through their respective jobs. I thought Volta’s job as a flight-certified emergency medical technician, who’s ready to hop on a plane and fly across the state to help someone in need, at a moments notice, was so interesting. Scott is a doctor who travels the world. His commitment to his job is why he broke up Volta. He is now starting to second guess his decision. I really liked Scott’s growth throughout this story. I just wish it wouldn’t have taken him so long to realize what Volta meant to him. 3.5 stars! I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

Sweet reunion! With the next book in her beloved Northern Lights series, Beth Carpenter continues to show us the beauty of gorgeous Alaska. Her words bring the location to life time and again through out the series. With the latest book, first loves reunite years later to find their love never died ... but their circumstances aren't any better now than the first time things fell apart. Fast paced, great connection between the characters with the sweet addition of an adorable little girl. Really loved their story! Once upon a time, Volta Morgan thought she would be living a different life, but things happened and turned her world upside down. Living back in her home state of Alaska for the last decade has rewarded her with a daughter that she adores and a job that's very satisfying. To say she's shocked when a blast from the past enters her world is putting it mildly! Doctor Scott Willingham walked away from Volta more than a decade ago for the sake of his career. He's been satisfied with that over the years, but there's never been a time when she's left his mind, so he decides to take on a job that will take him to Alaska where he plans to look her up and satisfy his need to know that everything turned out okay for her in life. He's surprised to find that the attraction between them is still flaring strong ... and he manages to fit into her ready made family a little too well!
