Oskar Klaus' job is killing him. Not even his favorite hobbies (extreme snowboarding and browsing old bookstores) are enough to snap him out of his funk. It's not easy living in the shadow of four successful older brothers and a father named Santa. Little does he know that a kiss on New Year's Eve is about to turn his life upside-down. ??

Kiana Grant's Manhattan life is a world away from her childhood in Oahu. She traded sunsets and surfing for a respectable career in library science, but Oskar Klaus is a temptation that's hard to resist. Before she knows it, she's in the midst of an outrageous adventure in the North Pole, dealing with mischievous elves, wicked demons, and a devastating attraction to Santa's youngest son. ??

There's just one problem...a bitter elf hell-bent on revenge threatens the future of everyone in the North Pole, even Santa himself...

About the Author

PENNY WATSON is a native Pittsburgher whose love of romance started at the age of twelve when she discovered Gone With The Wind in the middle school library. This resulted in numerous attempts at a first novel involving a young lady with windswept hair who lived in a tree house.

A biologist by training, Penny has worked at various times as a dolphin trainer, science teacher, florist, and turfgrass researcher. After taking time off to raise her two spirited children, she decided to rekindle her passion for storytelling. Now she gets to incorporate her wide array of interests—including gardening, cooking, and travel—into her works of fiction. Penny lives outside of Boston with one fly-fishing crazed husband, two lively Filipino kids, and a wiener dog.

Sweet Magik is book two in the Klaus Brothers series by Penny Watson. In this book we are going to get to know Oskar Johann Klaus, the youngest of the Klaus brothers and Kiana Grant, a librarian in Manhattan. Oskar has struggled to find his place in his family of five brothers and of course there is always his famous dad, Santa Claus. His job is to keep the lively elves of Glasdorf, the village they all live in at the North Pole, in line and to make sure everyone is happy. On the outside Oskar looks like a party boy with his brightly died hair and tattoos. But inside he is a well read, interesting man. On New Years Eve he is attending his brother’s swanky New Years party with loads of famous models to choose from to talk to. But his attention is riveted to a woman in frumpy clothes and spectacles but the most beautiful face and eyes he has ever seen. A New Years kiss will change both of their lives forever. “He was a man on a mission - to break through Kiana’s dull exterior and let that little mermaid out to have some fun.” Kiana grew up in Hawaii and spent her life on the beautiful sand and waves. But those are the only good memories she has of her former home. She was neglected by her family and hurt by her ex-boyfriend. She sought refuge in Manhattan, got her education and loves her job as a librarian. These sort of parties are not easy for her but Greg Klaus is her next door neighbor so she felt she should make an appearance. She feels oddly drawn to the youngest brother, Oskar. He is so not her type but there is something about him. Then there was the kiss. The best kiss of her life. Kiana through some unexpected circumstances finds herself in Glasdorf. Are those elves! What sort of place is this? But then she finds the smallest little girl she has ever seen, who is raggedly dressed and she is scared and alone. Kiana is instantly smitten with little Gabi and feels protective of this little girl and convinces her to go with her to Oskar’s house. Oskar can’t believe his luck that Kiana is here in his home. Together they provide a safe place for little Gabi. But there is something evil going on in Glasdorf. Some dark magik is at work. But who is behind it? And why? I didn’t love this one as much as book one but it was still a sweet story with some darker undertones as the rogue elf tries to take over Glasdorf with his dark magik. Little Gabi won my heart from the start. She was adorable. And I loved the way that Oskar and Kiana instantly came together to provide a safe haven for the little girl. This was a cute addition to the series as we continue to get to know the Klaus brothers. I wonder which brother will decide to be the one to take over their father’s role as Santa in one year’s time? Could it be Oskar? Or could it be Sven, the toy designer in Sweet Adventure, the third book in the series? I can’t wait to find out. “Life is full of uncertainty. Some things are worth the risk.”
