About the Author

Dr. Caroline Leaf is a communication pathologist and audiologist who has worked in the area of cognitive neuroscience, education, and mental health since 1985. The author of Switch On Your Brain, Think and Eat Yourself Smart, The Perfect You, and Think, Learn, Succeed, Leaf has been featured on many shows, including Enjoying Everyday Life with Joyce Meyer, LIFE Today with James and Betty Robison, Today with Marilyn and Sarah, It's Supernatural with Sid Roth, and Doctor to Doctor. Dr. Leaf also hosts The Dr. Leaf Show on TBN. She lives in Dallas, Texas.
Dr. Caroline Leaf is the author of Switch On Your Brain, Think and Eat Yourself Smart, and The Perfect You, amongst many other books and journal articles. Since 1981, she has researched the science of thought and the mind-brain connection as it relates to thinking, learning, renewing the mind, gifting, and potential. Dr. Leaf practiced clinically for 25 years and is an international and national conference speaker on topics relating to optimal brain performance such as learning, mindful thinking, stress, toxic thoughts, male/female brain differences, mindful eating and much more. She is frequently interviewed on TV stations around the globe, has published many books and scientific journal articles, and has her own TV show, The Dr. Leaf Show. Leaf and her husband, Mac, live with their four children in Dallas and Los Angeles.

This novel follows a daily-read format with short entries every day for the reader that teach on using our thoughts and actions to find joy in life. I especially enjoyed reading the bible passages that accompanied every entry, because they helped me become more familiar with the bible in small chunks that weren't overwhelming. I did feel a lack of emotional connection to the reader through everyday examples. This could have been brought on by the slight overuse of bible passages and scientific facts. Regardless, I recommend this to anyone looking for a habitual task to relax and unwind from the busy outside world.

Switch On Your Brain Every Day by Dr. Caroline Leaf is a new devotional designed to help Christians improve their lives with a daily routine of positive thinking practice. Switch On Your Brain Every Day starts with an introduction with information on how to get the most out of this book. Then each day's reading has a Bible verse, a "Brainy Tip" followed by a short reading. Each day's reading is just one page in this sweet little devotional book that is based on Dr. Leaf's book, Switch On Your Brain. This devotional book and the original book are both designed to help you instill a happier, healthier life based on correct thinking patterns. Dr. Leaf offers encouragement and various strategies to reap the benefits of positive thinking and this devotional offers those tips every day. I haven't read Switch On Your Brain yet. . .but it isn't necessary to read to glean good information and follow this book every day. I have heard Dr. Caroline Leaf speak and read several of her other books. She offers solid advice based both on Scripture as a Christian and her experience as a brain researcher and doctor. I enjoyed the readings in this small but thick book. They are bite-sized nuggets of information and Scripture that have helped me change my thoughts for the better and to make that a choice every day. Those nuggets are actually some fairly scientific facts but Dr. Leaf spells things out so they are easily understandable, which I like so much. There are 365 days of readings, which is especially great if one of your goals for the year is to get rid of negative thinking and be more positive. It could be started on any day but with January 1 coming up, now would be a great time to plan to use this as next year's daily devotional. I received this book from the publisher. I was not required to write a positive review.

There is so much going on in our daily lives that we need to remember to take the time and focus on what is truly important. Many people like to start their days with Quiet Time. This might be time to read their Bible, reflect on what is going on in their daily lives etc. Dr. Caroline Leaf has written a book to help us with our we think which in turns affects us both physically and mentally! Switch On Your Brain Every Day has 365 readings for peak happiness, thinking and health. Each day there is a Bible verse, a brainy tip and a reading. It is recommended to get a journal and spend some additional time with the reading using the ask, answer and discuss method. For the ask portion write down several questions that came up while you were reading. In the answer section you apply the passage to your life by responding as detailed as you can to the questions you wrote in the previous section. Last, but not least you discuss. This is the area where you further think about your own thoughts and actions in light of the passage that you read. The author wants us to remember that we have power in our minds as we are working through these readings. The choices that we make can change our lives and the world for both good and bad. God has given us an amazing power to chose and we need to constantly focus on choosing for the positive. Dr. Caroline Leaf is a cognitive neuroscientist with a PhD in Communication Pathology and a BSc Logopaedics specializing in cognitive and metacognitive neuropsychology. Her theory of how we think has helped many people with learning disabilities, autism, traumatic brain injury, emotional health issues and many more. Dr. Leaf is focused on help people learn how to think, learn and find their purpose in life. I found this book to be a great way to start my day. To focus on a specific reading and how it can affect my life. To help me to focus more on the positive and what I can change about my own life for it to be more meaningful. This book could be used for a quick read in the morning and to get the day started or for a more in depth approach with a group study. Dr. Leaf has a website as well as can be followed on Youtube. This book was very encouraging, unique writing and compelling to read. The ideals of this book it to guide and help us to understand the unique of your mild, your choices, and your impact. It the beginner’s of “how to” guide for creating realities, although provide a platform for discussion: everyday it is up to you to examine the Scripture in an attempt to form a framework for dealing with life. “Your choices, where you direct your thinking, and what you decide to meditate on, can change the world—for good or for ill,” Dr. Caroline Leaf writes in the introduction to her book, Switch on Your Brain Every Day: 365 Readings for Peak Happiness, Thinking, and Health. ~ What ~ At three-hundred-and-eighty-four pages, this small hardbound with a padded front cover targets those who want a daily devotional that promotes thinking deeply and dwelling on spiritual things to better their well-being. Using the New Revised Standard Version of The Holy Bible for Old Testament references, The Kingdom New Testament is used for the second half of the Bible. Ending with an epilogue, notes, author’s biography, and advertisements, the book comes with an attached yellow marker ribbon. Each page in this book has a number day of a year with one or more written out Bible verses. A brainy tip to contemplate is highlighted in a gray-shaded box, followed by one to three paragraphs about the verse and an unstated topic. Using verses from all parts of the Bible, the devotionals concentrate on trusting in God while instilling practices for living a healthy, happy life daily. ~Why ~ So many devotions include a writer’s personal experiences, but this one does not. I am thankful that its focus is on God and thinking about Him. I like that I could relate to the topics and how the mind can be a powerful tool for personal and spiritual happiness. I appreciate that some of the topics may cover a few days or sometimes a verse is used on another day but with a different perspective. One devotion I enjoyed is Day 18 about Psalm46:10: Be still, and know that I am God. The Brainy Tip is: If you are constantly in busy mode, your mental and physical health will suffer. The two paragraphs that follow remind the reader that it is acceptable to say no sometimes and allow God to control our time. If we take the time to rest and relax, we can be restored and renewed through Him. ~ Why Not ~ Those who do not believe in Jesus Christ as their savior may not enjoy this devotional. Some may not like that the paragraphs do not thoroughly dissect the Scripture or offer other verses to explore. Others may prefer only reading the Scriptures as their daily reading. It should not replace daily Bible reading. ~ Wish ~ While the author mentions to write thoughts about the day’s contents in a separate journal, the book’s pages often have plenty of space that could include lines for writing. I wish a short title, prayer at the bottom, and topical or Bible verse index were included. ~ Want ~ If you like devotionals that lightly cover a Bible verse with insights and concepts to help you think about things, this may be a good choice.
