A bit slow going. Could tell what was going to happen from the start. Bit all in all a ok story. Likef that there was finally a book with no sex in it. Not that sex in a story is bad but lately alot of books have a heck of a lot but this did not

A very nice mystery, with romance thrown in. A relatively twisty plot for a cozy mystery. I think I'll read another of these.

About 203 pages. Then there are a few recipes. The mystery ends, but, the love story does not! I had to read the beginning of the next book, which is included, to find out how the story ends. Good characters, good story. If the next book was free, I would get it. Not paying for it.

This was a fun story! The characters are real characters! I especially had to laugh at Sal's father and his obsession with funerals and caskets. And then there is the cliff-hanger ending. I for sure need to get the next book in the series to see what happens next.

I actually give this a 3 1/2 star. The problems I had were mostly that some of the characters were over the top for my taste. Sal's best friend Josie berating customers (not a way to keep business), the deliveryman man was slimy, no store would want that kind of representation. An old flame who is highly jealous and want s to pick up where they left off years ago screams trouble to me. A couple things she does that seemed stupid to me. Her parents I just could not like. As I said this is my taste and some people might find them amusing. I did like Sal, she is likeable enough but needs to be a little firmer with people in her life. Loved grandma, the one person who seems to keep all the crazies at bay. Sal's sister is also a steady character who I wish there had been a little more of. I also liked the cop, not the arrogant in your face type, so refreshing. Josie who can be irritating is also likable in the way that she will stand and defend Sal, her caring does shine through. The mystery was good although I figured it out before Sal. I think if the characters even out a little this will be a winning series. I will continue on with this series, I am curious to see how it goes.

A story of an woman/girl who moves back home after her divorce and with her best friend as the baker to purchase a cookie shop with money inherited from her aunt. Two drama queens with out of control mouths running a public business. Also, would like to know, how can you use someone with severe hygiene problems to be the delivery person for a food based shop??? She also has the feeling she needs to 'retch' - a lot. Romance is thrown in between an old high school flame and the hot town police officer. And then the body of her husband's mistress is on the porch of the cookie shop....... And don't forget the klutzy, ditsy, drama, drama, drama.

Nice easy read that kept my attention. Does not use sex as the main theme. Pleasant change

This was my first book by author Catherine Bruns, but it will not be my last. Ms. Bruns has an easy, flowing way of writing that invites the reader to get lost inside her story and stay. And stay I did, finishing the entire book in one sitting. I immediately liked the best friend team of Sally Muccio and Josie Sullivan. Sally being a peacemaker and Josie a bit more of a hot head, they played well off each other. Besides the BFFs, Ms. Bruns has also created a diverse group of characters that really kept the story interesting. Just so many personalities. I loved the scenes in the cookie shop, Sally’s Samples. I honest to goodness smelled sweet baking cookies as I read. I was thrilled with the author’s choice of victim. I did not like that woman at all! LOL There were plenty of suspects in this mystery which keep me on my toes. And the surprise reveal made the ending of this book just perfect. And make sure to check out the great recipes at the back of the book. Note: Character Josie is feisty and uses some mild language from time to time.

Great New Series! This is a great new series; this is the first book in the A Cookies & Chance Mystery series by Catherine Bruns. Sally (Sal) Muccio has had her share of crazy, her boyfriend was cheating on her, her Italian parents are crazy, and her husband was unfaithful when they were married. After her divorce she heads to her hometown to open up her own novelty cookie shop, specializing in fortune cookies. When her ex-husband’s mistress drops dead on Sal’s front porch and she finds out someone killed her. Sal decides to put her sleuthing skills to the test to find the killer. If you are looking for a great mystery that will leave you guessing until the end, then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

I really fell in love with these characters!!! Sally and Josie are very easy to relate to. This was a great mystery and there were enough twists and turns that I had a hard time figuring out whodunit! This book really stuck with me and I have found myself thinking about Sally and her cookie shop and hoping that another will be released soon! I love her grandma too!!! Warning...you will crave cookies while reading this book!!!

I was looking for a good book to read this summer. I haven't read much this summer due to traveling, working and other stuff. I started to read "Tastes Like Murder" and literally could not put it down. I marathon read this book. Sal and Josie are definitely good friends. Sal and Josie really back each other up and look out for each other. But, who to trust? Who is evil? Who is safe? Who is the killer? Sal's family brings to mind the Plums from Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series. I wanted to know and finished the book in three days thoroughly out of breath. Thank you for my good summer read. I was entertained the entire time. Oh, and my oven will be getting a good workout this fall. Yummy!!

Humor, family eccentrics, friendships and murder all blend together to make this an excellent can’t put down read. PLUS recipes!

The dialog was flat...the characters were flat...figured out the plot and murderer early on. Don't waste your money on this one.
