Tesoro de Español is a two phase Spanish course for students in primary schools (Grade 3 upwards) or beginner's level in secondary schools and may be used for self tuition.
The exercises, games and other activities in the workbook give ample scope for oral practice and students are particularly encouraged to work in pairs (especially 'role playing,' but also in interviews, announcements and other everyday situations) and in groups (for discussions, re-enacting lesson material and chain games). Pronunciation and intonation are not overlooked and exercises on both are set at regular intervals. Opportunities for individual written practice are also well integrated into the range of work set in any given lesson. Indeed the amount and variety of exercises is a particular feature of the course.
The grammar explanation is as compact as it is consistent with clarity. Grammatical explanations, based on examples generally taken from lesson texts, have been kept succinct. The progression is clear, consistent and well structured and the lessons take (and weave in) grammatical points in a manner far removed from the old style grammar-translation methods. The focus of Tesoro de Español: Libro Dos, as well as Tesoro de Español: Libro Uno, is the development of communicative competence among learners of Spanish. In other words, learners should be able to understand and use Spanish in a number of educational and social contexts.
