The fun began when Fred joined a local Drum & Bugle Corps at age 11. But at 14 he was ‘kidnapped’ while hitch-hiking to practice, and taken to the corps he spent his teenage years marching with, The Miami Vanguards. During those years he enjoyed being an undefeated State Champion and a National Championship contender.

After he 'aged-out' at 21, Fred joined a Senior Corps before serving as a Contest Official, and drum instructor with both a Drum Corps and several High School Band drumlines. He was proud when they achieved the highest drum scores in the Corps State Championships, as well as several Winter National Band competitions.

But the biggest surprise is that despite his youthful wildness, Fred Etzler has gone on to become… believe it or not… a highly decorated police officer.
