The Deal (Off-Campus, #1) by Elle Kennedy

New York Times bestseller Elle Kennedy brings you a sexy new Off-Campus novel that can be read as a standalone

She’s about to make a deal with the college bad boy…

Hannah Wells has finally found someone who turns her on. But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she’s carting around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex and seduction. If she wants to get her crush’s attention, she’ll have to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice…even if it means tutoring the annoying, childish, cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date.

…and it’s going to be oh so good

All Garrett Graham has ever wanted is to play professional hockey after graduation, but his plummeting GPA is threatening everything he’s worked so hard for. If helping a sarcastic brunette make another guy jealous will help him secure his position on the team, he’s all for it. But when one unexpected kiss leads to the wildest sex of both their lives, it doesn’t take long for Garrett to realize that pretend isn’t going to cut it. Now he just has to convince Hannah that the man she wants looks a lot like him.

I loved this book!  I read it in 2 days and started it as soon as it came out (usually books languish in the TBR pile) . The depth of this book and the characters astounded me.  We are hit with the fact that Hannah was raped in high school (off page) within the first few pages.  Right then I knew this was not only going to be a fun and lighthearted romp.   We see so much of the relationship between Hannah and Garrett develop naturally – the romance comes after the friendship which starts out with some adversarial interactions.  They are at times annoying, funny, cute, caring and understanding but always seemed believable.   Hannah and Garrett seemed real to me.  Yes, they are in college and in some aspects they are a little older than their years (they both have been through some traumatic things in their young lives), but most of the time they seem to be typical 20 year old college students.  They sound like it, they act like it.  They have real issues, and sometimes there are arguments and some drama, but for the most part they deal with them like real people – they talk and resolve.   Their friends are a key part of their lives, but they do not overtake the main couple. We see them in so many scenarios that are part of normal college life, dealing both with challenges with each other and with other people in their lives. I also liked that they did not let the things that happened when they were younger derail their lives.  Yes, they made choices about how they were going to live and there are some lasting impacts, but mostly they are normal college juniors getting on with their lives.   I really liked how Ms. Kennedy was able to wring the emotion out of the story.  The scene where Hannah and Garrett are first intimate was awesome – it was hot, and there was obvious action, but there was also so much more going on within the plot of the book that made it even more moving.   I was at times smiling, laughing out loud, crying and cheering for our characters.  I can’t wait to read the next one in this series.  I think I liked most of the secondary characters as much as Hannah and Garrett.

I'm always a little hesitant buying books that are about relationships in college because the characters can be very immature. But that wasn't the case with this book. Great story, great characters & a hea!

Loved this book. Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. It has love, humor & real life experiences that are not far fetched. Trust me, it was great! Enjoy

## Another fantastic read by Elle Kennedy. Wow, she has a talent for making us readers care deeply for her characters. Normally I don't read college stories. My own kids are in college so I find the characters much too young. However I buy everything Ms. Kennedy writes so I had to give this book a chance. Boy, am I glad I did. This book was tremendous. The hero and heroine had fabulous chemistry; their progression from strangers to friends to lovers was beautifully written. It was funny, sexy and heartwrenching all in one. My only complaint and this is HUGE for me and the sole reason I couldn't rate this book 5 stars was that we had to read the sex scenes between the hero and other women. God, that was excruciating for me. Bleh...no thanks. Will I read this again? Yep, that's affirmative...but now I will be prepared and will skip those scenes. Because the rest was stellar!

A great read with a disappointing end! The characters and story are engaging but I felt as though the author stopped writing about Hannah and Garrett. The ending was so abrupt with guy wins championship and kisses the girl...the end.

I don’t usually enjoy romance novels, but this one really got to me. I enjoyed seeing the relationship with Hannah and Garrett form. As the saying goes, the best things in life are the ones unexpected!

Funny and flirty and so freaking good. I read this in less than two hours on the train because I could not put it down. Elle Kennedy is a definite favorite of mine when it comes to New Adult books, and not just because of the scorching hot romances she writes. All of her characters have substance and depth and rich, interior lives that have nothing to do with the person they're lusting after, and I love that even more than I love her love stories. Definitely going to get my hands on the rest of this series sooner rather than later.

Such a fun read! The chemistry between Garrett and Hannah is almost palpable, that's how strong of a writer Elle Kennedy is. The connection they have, along with the fun bickering and easy relationship, feels so real. What I really love about this story is that there's no silly drama in it - I never felt like things were exaggerated or reactions were way too over the top, and that just makes me love Garrett and Hannah even more. Yeah, sometimes conclusions are jumped to, but they work through their problems together, and I love that. Another thing I really like about The Deal is that, while each of the characters have some baggage from their pasts, it was stuff that already happened and led to the characters being who they are in the story (if that makes sense). I liked knowing that, even though really crappy stuff happened in the past, they learned how to move past it, and that just made them even stronger and more real for me. I love the hockey aspect of Garrett's life, and the music part of Hannah's - really just a fun, emotional read with two awesome main characters! Can't wait to read Logan's story next.

Elle Kennedy is one of my go-to authors when it comes to adult romance so I anticipated enjoying her hand at the new-adult genre as well. The Deal is certainly one of the better new-adult novels I have read but it still didn't win me over. Regardless, I applaud Ms. Kennedy for incorporating some pretty heavy themes into this romance and managing to keep the sexy-factor strong. Emotions were high and the drama element was in full-force on both sides, but I was able to keep my eyerolls at bay. I enjoyed The Deal - 3 stars - but I don't think I will be continuing the series. HOWEVER, if you are a reader who does enjoy the new-adult genre, I highly recommend The Deal, and since Elle Kennedy is the author, I'll go ahead and recommend the rest of the series as well :) My favorite quote: “Sometimes people sneak up on you and suddenly you don’t know how you ever lived without them.” Elle Kennedy's Off-Campus series includes the following installments as of December 2016: #1-The Deal #2-The Mistake #3-The Score #4-The Goal

I love books that switch between characters to tell the same story, and this book does it well. Drama, sex, hockey, and music all in one story.

First book I've read by this author and I love it. This book was so so so freaking hot. I WISH I had a life like this with hot a guy. This book is a must read. Although the ending fizzled out for me. Kinda seemed that the author ran out of the plot idea and threw in something at the end. But still a good book!
