About the Author

John Maynard Keynes (1883–1946) was a British economist. During the Great Depression he published The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money, an enormously influential book positing the revolutionary theory that prolonged recessions are not self-correcting, but require government intervention. This thesis formed the basis of Keynesian economics and shaped government policies in a number of countries for decades.
