Overview

Gas is poured. A match is lit. Another church crumbles to the ground in a heap of ashes and embers. With plans to retire in the near future, Fire Marshal Rich Goeller is drawn into one final case that will define his legacy as an arson investigator. When three churches burn to the ground, each with similar patterns left by the arsonist, Goeller enlists the help of a local police detective, who happens to be his nephew. Using their combined experience, the two are closing in on the arsonist when a tragic event threatens to destroy their investigation and shake their city to its foundation.

From the eye-catching cover to the very last word, The Fallen will have you begging for more of this author's work. Twists and turns abound with an ending you won't see coming.

This book was well written with several sub-plots that all tied together at the end. There was enough detail to know the author is a fireman but not so much that the details became boring. I can't wait to get started on the West Baden trilogy.

The author is a real-life firefighter, and it certainly shows with his gripping detail. Sometimes the fires are so real you can feel the heat and smell the burning wood. Add this to the mystery which pits a veteran arson investigator against an arsonist burning down churches with black congregations, and you've got a novel that feels like the real thing. The investigator's nephew, a local detective, begins to uncover a secret his uncle has kept from him most of his life about his parents' deaths, which serves as a second mystery. The book moves along well, has incredible detail, and the characters are unique and three-dimentional. A must for anyone who enjoys a good mystery or stories about the fire department!
