The First Air Raid on Lancashire: The Zeppelin Menace
This book gives a detailed account of the Zeppelin raids on Bolton and Rossendale in late September 1916, setting them in the context of wider events at home and abroad. Using first-hand accounts from airship crews, British personnel and civilians, as well as utilising official press accounts from local archives and national archives in the UK and Germany, author Scott Carter-Clavell not only looks at the Lancashire raids but also examines the origins of the Zeppelins and their use in conflict, from the first raids through to the end of the war. The book also includes photographs from the period, many previously unseen, including the Zeppelin, its crew, the affected areas in Bolton and the home defence pilots and aircraft.
