About the Author

R. GOPALAKRISHNAN (b. 1949) is a keen young geographer who holds a doctorate from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He is a member of the National Association of Geographers, India and other important geographical societies in this country. He is now on the faculty of the Department of Geography at North Eastern Hill University, Shillong and is engaged upon a study of the Assam agitation.
