AudioBook Review: Stars: Overall 4 Narration 4 Story 4 A stand-alone second chance romance between former high-school sweethearts reignites when, after chasing his dreams to play hockey in the pros, Ethan is back in town hoping to reclaim Delilah while now playing for the home-town team. And of course, Delilah (or Lilah as she now goes by) has been back at home, gone to nursing school, stayed close to Ethan’s family even without him there, and isn’t sure that his return is a good thing. Sure, their chemistry is electric, but it’s her heart that is in danger of being shattered again – being so consumed with one person for so long, only to have him chase his dreams with no looking back at you isn’t somewhere she wants to go. Things are mostly normal – oh yeah, the usual craptastic stuff happens, and it looks like Ethan means business now and is serious – but what if something – as it always seems to do – goes wrong? Together these two fairly sizzle through the earbuds, and like all Hunting novels, the conversations are a clever mix of humor, honesty, vulnerability and bravado, all mixed in a way that is engaging, emotionally available and utterly charming. A touch less risqué than other titles from Hunting, the story focuses on the sweetness of first love, what happens when you realize (often after many years) that you had it right that first time, and just how you convince the girl you hurt in a million different ways when you left that now you are ready to give her your all – forever. Sure enough, and sensibly, Lilah isn’t entirely certain about Ethan’s staying power – but she’s never actually forgotten him, or how he used to make her feel – some of the same ‘feels’ that she had when their love was new and things felt so much simpler. Narration for this story is provided by Stella Bloom and Lance Greenfield – and both managed to capture Lilah and Ethan and feel natural and appropriate. A touch of the often fatalistic, ‘here we go again -everything is turned sideways’ tone that Lilah seems to apply to many things, it’s later before her hope and desire to really have Ethan meaning what he says, in ways she can believe in it and him to take hold in her tone with an infusion of hope and fondness – and her hesitation is clearly apparent to the ear. Ethan is a bit of a ‘boy’ in his approach, it takes a bit for his emotional tone to catch up to his declarations and words, but when it does – Look Out. These are two people that you could run into almost anywhere – and instantly see their connection – wanting to cheer them on as they hit the road toward their happy ever after. I received an AudioBook copy of the title from Hachette Audio for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

5 star Review The Good Luck Charm by Helena Hunting This is a second chance at love story, a genre I have come to enjoy more and more this year. I love Ms. Hunting's style of writing, she ensures that her characters are not “perfect”. I was entertained and captivated from the start. Ethan Kane left Lilah 8 years ago to pursue his hockey dream, yet now he has returned, determined to win her back at any cost. Will Lilah be open to rekindling their romance? This was a solid romance with angst, passion and a great deal of emotion. Ethan and Lilah’s passion, friendship with years of knowing and loving each other easily translates onto the page. . The Good Luck Charm is a story of redemption, of love and commitment, of forgiveness, of taking a chance and knowing that when it is right, it is right. The drama and conflict were offset by humour and steamy scenes. As I have come to expect from a novel from Helena Hunting it was extremely well written with strong and relatable characters and was thoroughly enjoyable. Once click now I don’t think you will be disappointed.

Cute read but I did not enjoy this book as much as her others.

The Good Luck Charm surprised me with the depth of the characters; not only does it involve one heck of a second-chance romance but it also delves into the aspects of identity and how it is shaped by our life events especially those of the negative variety. Regret is a powerful demon to live with and it can affect the way in which you conduct all aspects of your life without even realizing it. Which is exactly the situation Ethan faces when he returns to his hometown after eight years away. Following the break-up with his high school girlfriend, Delilah, Ethan’s sports career has taken a nose-dive. He has one more season to make an impression or he could find himself retired before he is 30. His original plan had been to play for his hometown but circumstances dictated otherwise, now he is where he should always have been but without the one person he has compared everyone else to, Lilah. Ethan’s break-up with Lilah completely crushed her, so much so that she never fully recovered from it and has kept her heart safely locked away even during her marriage. I felt sorry for all the parties concerned where Lilah’s failed relationship was concerned however, the heart wants what it wants and in Lilah’s case no-one else can make her feel as much as Ethan. Connected by a family emergency, Ethan and Lilah have to work through all of their emotional baggage in order to move on with or without the other. The Good Luck Charm shows how easy it is to lose yourself in someone else especially when you are nurturer by nature. Fear will ultimately undermine any happiness you are trying to achieve. The most important lessons both Ethan and Lilah have to learn are recognising their independence is necessary to a healthy, thriving relationship. Letting go of their fears and embracing the present, will lead to a brighter future

Well written. Funny yet emotional and totally sucked me in. I couldn’t wait to see what happened in the end and yet I wanted to savor the book.

I don't think of this story as a second chance, it is way more of a waiting for the right time, love story. See, while Ethan and Lilah were perfect back as children, teenages, and young adults, looking back, even they realized they needed time apart, because it would have fallen apart anyways. That being said, this is a feel good, story. It is full of emotions, good and bad, but there is a positivity emanating from every action and reaction. These are two people who are completely and totally in love and devoted to each other, they just need to find a way to fit that into their lives. I was left smiling, grinning really, and warmth filled my very soul when they figured everything out!

Lilah and Ethan’s story is like being on a roller coaster ride! I loved every minute of it. The story is well written. The plot was amazing and the characters are very well developed. You fall right into the story. It is 4:28 am. Believe me when I say you won’t be able to put the book Down, I Couldn’t Put The Book Down. Helena keeps you on your toes and always wanting to turn that page! I loved the subtle nod to Debra in this book as well. See if you can find it. It jumped off the page at

Author Helena Hunting is one of my favorite authors to read especially when it comes to romcoms that have to deal with hockey. Oh who am I kidding. If she writes it...I will read it. And Ethan and DJ or Lilah's story as she is called 8 years later is as good as the Puck series where I originally found Ms Hunting. In this book we have Ethan a lovable but insecure hockey player who thought he was doing the right thing by breaking up with his high school girlfriend when he got drafted by the NHL. Oh yes this was on advice of his father whom he never listened to in the past. That girlfriend whom he broke up with via phone was DJ or Lilah. She had grown up in his home as one of the family and to lose that well that is hard. She marries another and goes to nursing school. Fast forward 8 years and Ethan's back in town playing hockey. His dad has a stroke and Lilah is newly divorced. Life is set in motion or is it? What a wonderful read that speaks to real life as so many of us life and know it in the real world. As in true style of Ms Hunting we get lots of good times, reads and of course we get twists and turns. This book is a standalone but I hope we get more from this family in the future as I am wanting Carmen and Dr Lovely and yep I want Emery and have a deep feeling that Tyler Kase fits into her life somewhere in the future.

Okay, now I need to go back and see if I can find mention of our male lead in this book, Ethan, because it says that he played in Chicago with our favorite hockey boys in the Pucked series. But anyway, he's a bit older, and so it was a nice second chance type of romance. It started out great, I loved how we got two chapters from each character in a row, but then it soon moved to mostly Delilah. With a short chapter from Ethan thrown in when it was necessary to get his side of the story. I loved all the characters in the book though. Loved Ethan's dad talking about being a grower rather than a shower. We got a very slow burn between Ethan and Delilah, once she finally decided to let him have a second chance. I identified a lot with the whole second chance part of the story, being older myself, I'd love to have certain guys from my past show back up and try something again with them. Not all of them, just a few that I'd be willing to try with. But then again, I'm at a stage in my life and career that I could be okay with devoting a lot of my time to the other person. Unlike Delilah who was just now starting to work on moving her career forward with grad school. Some other things I really liked were how mature Ethan was when Delilah needed to call a "break" or pause as the chapter title says. I was very impressed with that. It shows that the author was taking into consideration the age of the characters and being realistic as opposed to just adding drama for drama's sake. I liked the twist at the end. Didn't see it coming, although I had been guessing at what that person could possibly be adding to the story enough to have such a big part. While this isn't a series, as far as I know, I would definitely love a book for Delilah's sister Carmen and Dr. Lovely. I need to go hint to the author on social media that she should do that.

My Review Title: I loved living with these MCs! ★¸¸.•*¨*•★Minor Spoilers Alert★•*¨*•.¸¸★ Ethan and Lilah’s second chance romance was another amazing reading experience for me. Author Helena Hunting has a unique voice in romance that I hope I never fall out of love with as a reader who needs romance to fill my personal emotional void. What did I like about this contemporary sports romance? Second chance trope / Nurse heroine / Hockey hero / Easy-to-read / Flashbacks / Wonderful characters / Witty / Steamy / Page-turner / Romantic / Realistic / HEA One of my favorite scenes: Ethan’s eyes are frantic; his fingers tap in distress. “This sounds like a breakup speech, Lilah.” I want to take away his fear, but I can’t. “I didn’t plan this, not any of it, especially not the part where I fall in love with you again. I can’t take this on for you. I can’t be the reason you succeed or fail. You have to believe in you as much as I do.” “You don’t want to do this,” Ethan says softly. I run a finger down the bridge of his nose, wishing the action could calm us both. “Of course I don’t. But I need some time and space to focus on my own life, independent of you. It doesn’t do me any good to lose my own dream so you can have yours. It just sets us up for failure all over again.” I loved being in their individual headspaces and feeling as if I were living their lives for the time it took me to complete their journey coming back together and planning their well-deserved HEA together. Also, I sincerely hope Lilah’s sister Carmen and Emery both get their own novels someday as well.

Interesting read, especially for those who still pine for their first love. Good storyline with believable characters, but I could do with a little less bridge-of-nose stroking. Sex scenes were far more detailed than the rest of the book, which I personally found disruptive. Glad they got to the HEA though, abnd will be looking for a book about Carmel and Noah!

I love Helena Hunting books. This book was no exception. I found it to be very entertaining and I could not turn the pages fast enough. I love this story but I wish it would have expanded more on Lilah and Carmen finding their father and building the relationship.

In Helena Hunting’s latest, The Good Luck Charm, childhood sweethearts Lilah and Ethan are suddenly reunited when Ethan is traded back to the hometown hockey team. These two have a lot of history to deal with before they reach their HEA. Their journey is the fun part of the book. This is at times not an easy read, but definitely worth it for the ultimate resolution. Besides, Ethan is very sexy! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

Second chance sports romances are some of my absolute favorite stories to read, and ever since I was introduced to Helena Hunting’s books, I can’t get enough of her storytelling, writing, and characters, so the fact that Hunting’s newest release, Good Luck Charm, includes the tropes I love and is crafted by an author who never fails to entertain and indulge, I knew I was in for one great read. 8 years…that’s how long it’s been since childhood best friends and high school sweethearts, Ethan and Lilah, have seen each other after Ethan broke both their hearts, ending things between them just before he entered the NHL Draft, and while it would appear that they’ve both moved forward with their lives creating successful careers for themselves, none of their personal relationships have worked out because they gave their hearts to one another all those years ago. The circumstances that bring Ethan back home to Forest Lake, Minnesota, complicate his life and his future in significant ways, but Ethan’s biggest game changer is Lilah, which means coming face-to-face with the love of his life, the girl he gave up to follow his dreams, will either put even more pressure on his shoulders or allow him to make amends and work to win back her heart. What surprised me most about Ethan and Lilah’s story is the fact that, given their history and what they’re up against, it’s not as angst ridden as I thought it would be. Don’t get me wrong, there’s more than a fair share of drama and heightened emotions dominate many scenes throughout the story, but nothing is over-the-top, and for the most part, Ethan and Lilah work through things without overreacting and they find the words to say how they’re feeling, even if it’s not exactly what the other one wants to hear. I do have to admit that there were a few times in the story where Lilah’s reactions and actions frustrated me, and I felt like she wanted to blame Ethan for things that were very much in her control, even if he was constantly pursuing her and maybe pressuring things to move forward too quickly. I get that the love between them is intense and consuming and it’s easy to lose her own identity by focusing too much on Ethan, but she’s been an independent woman for the 8 years that Ethan was gone, so that balance she’s struggling with can be obtained, but she first has to acknowledge the real reason she keeps putting Ethan’s needs over her own. It’s absolutely essential to have Ethan’s point of view presented in Good Luck Charm. Being able to hear his internal musings and his true feelings about what happened when he gave Lilah up brings to light just how much he was affected by the break-up and why his feelings for her have never dissipated, regardless of his drive to achieve his goal of becoming a professional hockey player. Throughout the entire book, Ethan is working overtime to make up for the years he lost with Lilah, which more than proves he regrets how things ended and he’ll do anything to have her by his side forever. The secondary characters, especially Lilah’s sister, Carmen, and Ethan’s mom and dad play pivotal roles in the story line. They help the hero and heroine to work through their past, realize their mistakes, and figure out a way to move forward without allowing anyone or anything to get in their way, especially Lilah and Ethan themselves .

Ethan an Lilah are fun, flirty and deliciously flawed but loving each other is not their problem. This was a great read and has all the feels.

The Good Luck Charm is such a witty, sweet, and heartfelt romance. It is the fusion of some of my very favorite tropes. Sports romance - check Second Chance - check Childhood Friends to Lovers - check I was sucked right into Lilah and Ethan's story and couldn't wait to unravel their tangled history. You can feel the connection between these two immediately. 8 years may have passed, but it's clear that neither of them has truly forgotten the other. As the secrets of the past are revealed, my heart broke for all the lost time and pain these two caused each other. Though I wouldn't necessarily classify The Good Luck Charm as a romcom, there are still plenty of laughs and lighthearted moments to balance the more emotional scenes. I'll be honest that it took me a bit to warm up to Ethan. He seemed selfish and self serving for a good part of the book, and acted like he could just waltz right back into Lilah's life with some candy and a smirk. He's not fully to blame though since Lilah did enable his behavior for the most part (after some resistance), as a result of her own fears and insecurities. As the book progresses though, both characters mature and truly come into their own. I loved that Lilah recognized that they were headed down the wrong path and took steps (however painful) to create balance. As much as their past trauma and present day issues hurt my heart, I appreciated the honest portrayal of young and all consuming love and the message that in a relationship, both parties need to be fulfilled individually in addition to together. There were some fun secondary characters introduced in the book that I hope we will see more of in the future (ahem, Carmen and Noah!) and I wouldn't mind one bit if we ever got an extended epilogue ;) I really enjoyed this second chance romance and can't wait for everyone to fall for Lilah and Ethan too! 4.5 stars *I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book*

THE GOOD LUCK CHARM by Helen Hunting is a contemporary, adult, erotic, hockey romance story line focusing on twenty-seven year old, professional hockey player Ethan Kane, and twenty-six year old, practical nurse Lilah Smith. Told from dual first person perspectives (Lilah and Ethan) THE GOOD LUCK CHARM focusing on the second chance relationship between twenty-seven year old, professional hockey player Ethan Kane, and twenty-six year old, practical nurse Lilah Smith. Eight years earlier, high school sweethearts Ethan and Lilah were making plans for the future when Ethan’s chance to play professional hockey found our hero walking out of Lilah’s life without looking back. Fast forward to present day wherein Ethan’s trade to his home-state of Minnesota brings with it too many memories of the past, and reminders of what was and what could have been for our story line heroine. With his dad’s recent stroke Ethan would have to face the reality of having lost the woman he has always loved as Lilah remains a permanent fixture in his parents’ lives. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship between Lilah and Ethan, and the potential fallout as Ethan’s need for Lilah becomes overwhelming leaving our heroine feeling smothered and lost at the same time. Lilah’s heart was destroyed the day Ethan walked out of her life with nothing more than a phone call saying he needed to focus on his hockey career. Losing the only man she would ever love Lilah spent the next eight years trying to find what she had lost only to come to the realization that nothing and no one could ever replace her broken heart. Ethan Kane has never stopped loving Lilah Smith, and his actions eight years earlier have been a heavy burden throughout his career. Having a second chance at love finds our hero trying to regain everything he has lost but in doing so begins to push away the woman he loves-Lilah will, once again, unknowingly sabotage her future for the man that could potentially destroy her heart. The relationship between Lilah and Ethan is one of second chances; a palpable sexual attraction that has never diminished; a heart breaking and emotional reunion that begins to pick at a scar that had yet to heal. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and seductive, without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text. We are introduced to Lilah’s sister Carmen; Ethan’s parents Martin and Jeannie Kane; Dr.Noah Lovely; and college student Emery Dove-Smith. I am hoping for a future story between Noah and Carmen. THE GOOD LUCK CHARM is a story of sacrifice and acceptance; family and friendships; second chances and a happily ever after. The premise is emotional and sensitive; the romance is spirited and provocative; the characters are flirty but wounded. THE GOOD LUCK CHARM is a character driven, realistic and passionate story.

The Good Luck Charm is custom made for second chance romance lovers. Helena Hunting gives us some tension mixed with humor, and adds hockey to satisfy sports romance addicts like me. It’s a great combo. Ethan and Lilah fell in love in high school. Ethan had his sights set on the NHL even back then, and they had their lives planned out together. Unfortunately, Ethan changed the rulebook after graduation and abruptly broke things off with Lilah. Eight years later, circumstances give them a shot at a do-over, but Lilah isn’t eager to hand over her heart to Ethan again. I respected Lilah for picking herself up after having her heart trampled on and pursuing her own dreams. Her life hasn’t been the easiest, but she seems to have endless compassion. Her connection with Ethan’s parents is heartwarming. I really related to Lilah’s struggle to balance work and her own needs with the demands of those she loves. What female doesn’t love to feel wanted by their man? Ethan makes it clear that he both wants and needs Lilah in his life. However, he’s too needy for my taste. A little vulnerability is sexy; desperation is not. He loves so intensely to the point of suffocation. I can’t deny the fact that Ethan is a total romantic, though, and his incredibly nurturing nature ups the swoon factor tremendously. I loved the wooing, even though I wouldn’t have minded more groveling on Ethan’s part. Ethan and Lilah have wonderful chemistry, and I savored their romance reboot. At the same time, Ethan’s strained relationship with his father creates some nice tension. Some elements of the plot are glossed over and rushed, which is a shame because I think they could have made the story more impactful. In the end, though, this is a very enjoyable second chance romance with lots of warmth. * I voluntarily read an early copy of this book. This does not affect the content of my review.

The Good Luck Charm is a sexy and exciting second chance romance from author Helena Hunting. The Good Luck Charm follows the story of Lilah and Ethan. Lilah is busy trying to live the dream. Her day starts off a total mess. From destroyed clothes to divorce papers, the last thing she ever expected was to see a ghost from her past. Lilah hasn’t seen or heard from Ethan in over 8 years and the pain is just as fresh when she sees him again. He wants her forgiveness, but she doesn’t know if she can let go of the past. Ethan will stop at nothing to try and have Lilah by his side again. And just when things seem to be going his way, fate throws in another curve-ball. Will history repeat itself once again or are Lilah and Ethan in it for the long haul?? There’s only one way to find out. Stories like this are totally my jam. I just can’t get enough of the separated lovers reunited by chance. And this one was just fantastic. I was sucked in to Ethan and Lilah’s story from the first page. The tension between the two of them was just so palpable. I could tell that there was something still there; something worth fighting for and I couldn’t wait to see just how their story was going to play out. Now, the road to happily ever after was not an easy one for them. Leliah had a lot of hurt and pain to work through. But, I loved how genuine Ethan seemed. He thought he was making the best decision at the time and now is grabbing on to his second chance like his life depends on it. The Good Luck Charm is a terrific read from beginning to end. I’ll be the first to admit that the pacing is a bit slower than the books I normally gravitate to, but for this book, I think the slower pacing worked. I got a good feel for the characters, their story, their connection and all that was lost. I got to see them work to rebuild what was lost. Whether circumstances were right or wrong, these two had some real growing up to do and priorities to get straight. I really enjoyed seeing how far they came and couldn’t help but find myself rooting for them. The Good Luck Charm is fun and sexy with a great mix of sweetness. This story will suck you in and keep you begging for more. Neither character is perfect and I found them both very easy to relate to. Their story is one of first loves and fighting for that second chance. It is a story of forgiveness and heart. A story of communication and a love that even years can’t take away. The Good Luck Charm is a solid four star read for me and just the book I was looking to spend my afternoon with.
