About the Author

Charles R. Berger (Ph.D., Michigan State University) is Professor in the Department of Communication at UC Davis. He is the former editor Human Communication Research (ICA) and former coeditor of Communication Research (SAGE). He is a past president and Fellow of the International Communication Association. Berger is widely published and cited, his most recent book being Planning Strategic Interaction: Attaining Goals Through Communicative Action. He co-edited the first edition of the Handbook of Communication Science with Steven Chaffee (deceased).
