Henry Fielding (1707-1754) was an English novelist and dramatist known for his clever humor and satire. Fielding's best known work is TOM JONES, considered to be one of the earliest novels in the English language. Aside from his literary achievements, Fielding was a magistrate crediting with founding London's first police force, the Bow Street Runners.
