The Fever exploded across the U.S. and the world. Hour by hour the news grew worse. The virus was spreading at a bewildering pace, killing so fast that estimates had to be constantly revised. Even worse, it appeared to be mutating to an even deadlier form.

Stranded on Portsmouth Island after the President instituted martial law, William Hill found himself fighting to survive even though he had come to the island to die. The old village offered shelter against the storms and the coming winter. The sea offered food. Life should have been simple.

It wasn’t. He hadn’t counted on the old woman, or the odd little boy she brought with her. He hadn’t expected to provide for nearly a dozen people.

He wasn’t prepared for the evil that came to the island. William Hill had never been afraid of the dark. He never had reason to.

He did now. Not only had the evil come.

It knew his name.

About the Author

Trying to figure out when I started writing is like trying to decide when I started walking. The stories have always been there, rummaging around in my mind. Some went on paper. Most didn’t. I wrote my first novel when I was 22. Thankfully, I left it to the dustbin of history where it shall always remain. Imagine the grin, yes, it was that bad. As for influences on my latest story, The Island, that one has been up there banging away in my head for a long time. Parts of it were told at bedtime. Though honestly, those who heard the parts wouldn't recognize them in the story. By the time we get to the second book in this series, they will find some recognizable moments. They'll also probably be upset that the adventure turned into something of a horror story. Ahh, well, most of them are old enough now to read it for what it is. I grew up in North Carolina, which is why part of the story is set there. I’ve been to exotic parts of the world, many countries, and most states. None of them I know as well as the one I called home for most of my life. It makes it easy to write about it, and the people in it. I hope you enjoy the stories. MS

To be fair, I have read parts 1, 2, and 3 of this series. This is the part where it really gets good. The story takes a turn that is unexpected, yet exciting and scary. The flow of the story is quicker than part 1 and even better written. This series gets better with each installment.

This continuing story has surprises, action and suspense. Mr. Stark is writing this story in installments and I am impressed with how nicely the story is developing. Now for Book 3...

Wow!!!!!!! I can't say enough about this author. He is a wonderful writter. I loved parts 1 & 2. I am now going to read book 3. I have to say their was quite alot of twists and turns in book 2 I didn't see coming. Loved it. This is a first for me to read a book like this. I usually only read romances. Thanks so much for the free read. I went and bought books 4 & 5, too see what finally happens. I will leave a review on the books after I have finished them. J..... :)

It didn't take long for me to become hooked into the storyline and looking forward to reading more. Engaging characters and a plausible story. The author writes with a style that provides enough details to paint an image and bring the story to life and with enough action to make your heart race. Well done.

Better than the first installment, with the author's now- customary attention to details tying together the story. Not just another apocalypse tale! The lead characters are realistic, not perfect by any stretch. The only criticism I have thusfar is the incredible coincidence of the imperfect characters who nevertheless have such survival skills. They always seem to succeed. Anyway, this is compelling.

William Hill is now the unofficial leader of the castaways on the island. The government has enforced martial law-no one is allowed to travel. He has seen and shot at a monster. All this and news from the mainland says "the fever" is claiming more lives. This story keeps you hooked like the old movie serials-excitement builds-on to book 3.

Part 2 started out good; but once I got to a certain part (the main character going back to his boat) I just stopped reading. It actually frightened me and I didn't like that. I am giving it a #4 rating because I just know it must be a good book.

I've read a lot of books (See; way too many) and have reached a level of comfort with the written word that horror books often lose their chill. Mr. Stark succeeded in giving me a good spook here and I eagerly look forward to the third part of this story!

I jumped right into this one after the first one. My husband was not so happy, dinner was really late!

I usually read all the reviews of the books in a series before I decide to read them. Since the ratings remained high, and so many enjoyed them, I decided to read the first book. I ended up with all the books. I liked William's idea of spending the remainder of life enjoying what he loved. Instead of peaceful acceptance of death, though, he finds himself instead fighting to survive something more terrifying than death. Micheal Stark has written a story you won't be able to put down. You'll have to know what's going to happen next.

I liked the first book. But i should have seen what was coming! I dont like to read scary or supernatural stuff, no fault of the book or the author, he gave indications in the first one what was coming. My rating is based on the first book, as I dont think the book is not good, but just not my type of reading.
