Beginning with the life and works of E.M. Forster the present book highlights the significance of the title of the novel and provides synopsis and chapter wise summary detailed character sketches of both major and minor characters, a select bibliography and a brief glossary of difficult terms so as to induce interest in readers by enabling them to have an easy understanding of the novel It is hoped that a perusal of this critical study will induce the general readers to read the novels of E. M. Forster . It will particularly prove an easy- to- read resource for the students as well as teachers of English literature.

About the Author

LALITA PRASAD VIDYARTHl, MA. Ph D., (Chicago) is an anthropologist of international repute having been President of both the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (1973-78) and of the Xth International Congress of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (1978). A prolific writer, he has to his credit several publications among which are : Rise of Anthropology in India; Rise of World Anthropology; Trends in World Anthropology; The Sacred Complex w Hindu Gay a; The Tribal Culture of India. Currently he is Professor and Head of the Department of Anthropology, University of Ranchi, Ranchi. He is also the Director of the University Grants Commission’s Centre of Special Assistance in Anthropology as well as the JP institute of Social and industrial Studies.

VIJAY S UPADHYAY, MA Ph. D., is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Anthropology, Ranchi University Ranchi. He has done cons.derab.fied work among several tribes in B.har as well as in the sacred cit.esflnd.a. In addition he has several published papers to his credit.
