Late in the second Anglo-Boer War (1899–1902) in South Africa, a primordial material, to be later known as LUCA, sickens and kills a party of Afrikaners in a remote cave. Kept hidden for over a century, this strange organism has been rediscovered. Will it lead to scientific advancement or devastation in the modern world? Former U.S. Army Ranger Tucker Wayne and his military working dog, Kane, are recruited by Sigma Force to extract from Siberia a scientific genius, Russian pharmaceutical magnate Dr. Abram Bukolov, who just might know where to find the elusive LUCA, and the key to its control. Getting Bukolov out proves to be no easy task—the Russian military and GRU spy network, including the beautiful and ruthless Swedish sniper Felice Nilsson and Russian Gen. Artur Kharzin, have plans for LUCA that echo the worst Cold War nightmares. VERDICT The taut and complex story sprints across the globe from Russia to Istanbul to southern Africa to the United States, and offers a diverse cast of well-developed characters and a tightly woven plot that intrigues, excites, and doesn't let go. This is the first volume in a new subseries of the Sigma Force novels focusing on Tucker Wayne and loyal and fearsome Kane. Highly recommended for thriller readers. I like Tucker Wayne and his dog so this was quite entertaining for me. It moves right along and keeps you on your toes. I didn't want to put it down. I'm hoping there will be more in the series.

I am a fan of Rollins. I did like Tracker. That said this installment featuring Kane and his master is a bit formulaic. It makes a better travelogue - should you ever want to go to the Siberia/Volga or Namibia. There are the requisite twists and turns of the plot and supporting characters that earmark a Rollins story. If you are expecting a Sigma or Sanguine quality story then this will disappoint you. But it is only the first in a series. I do hold out hope for a more satisfying story featuring Kane and the other end of his lead to be produced. I am not trying to be cute by referring to Kane's master as "end of the lead", but I can't remember his name as he is not a very satisfying character. It might be a better series if Kane shakes his master and randomly finds new ones in future stories. Some who might or might not like dogs, but not too "Lassie" in the plot. The title refers to an arcane scientific symbiosis of plant material - without giving too much away. It was rather predictable. Read this if you like Rollin's stories, I did. Read this if you liked the short "Tracker". If you are new to Rollins, read the Sigma series or the Sanguines series. They are fun reads. I hope this series gets better. I like Kane - Good Doggy!

Mr. Rollins never fails to entertain, and I loved this rollicking adventure. I am a huge dog lover (I have a professional Therapy Dog), am very familiar with their behavior, training, and personalities, and Kane was portrayed and rendered very realistically. I loved that Mr. Rollins and Mr. Blackwood stepped outside of the genre norms with two formidable female villains instead of the standard evil male villain (although we got one of those too!). Although vastly different in their methods, skills, and style, both women were equally deadly. LOVED the line about "getting some new shoes" (won't give that one away). The setting and scenes were realistic, the action and plot fast-paced and well-constructed, and the story progression seamless and perfectly executed. Another suspenseful, blistering page turner from the master of action and adventure. I love Tucker and Kane and their harmonious teamwork, and eagerly look forward to their next adventure. Kudos and bravo Mr. Rollins and Mr. Blackwood! Love the concept; Tucker and Kane, man and good friend. I must admit I jumped through the pages once in awhile, something I have never done before with Mr. Rollins books. On the whole, the story was good, and I can't wait for the second novel.

Though the plot was predictable and the writing tedious at times, I still liked the book. It was unique in the way it handled the Tucker/Kane relationship. As usual in a Rollins novel, there was allot of action, but the parts that were clearly intended to be a surprise were not much of a surprise. Still a good read, if somewhat tiriesome at times. I fell in love with James Rollins books by accident. Barnes and Noble had a sale and I bought one of his Sigma Series books, and fell hard. I never really liked Clive Cussler but James Rollins, a different story.      I went back and started The Sigma Series in order, of course skipping the one I read, and I have read several of the stand alone novels too. It was in the Sigma series, that Tucker and Kane were introduced and I loved the pair, plus, one being a dog makes things even more interesting. So when I read that the pair were going to have their own story, I got excited.      I was not disappointed. Kill Switch is a roller coaster ride of twits and turn. A perfect blend of action, characters, twists, science and history. Typical Rollins perfection, even when he is co writing with another, Grant Blackwood.       Love this first installment in the Tucker Wayne spin off from The Sigma Series. I was glad to hear that more novels would come following this perfectly matched pair.      You don't have to be familiar with The Sigma books, to enjoy this read. But if your interested in The Sigma Series, that starts with the prequel book to the series, Sandstorm. This book is definitely worth the time to read.

Kill Switch is filled with action-packed adventure.  Many twists and turns keep Tucker and Kane busy in this thriller, while they search for an organism that can 'kill' a deadly contaminant from the beginning of life, accompanied by an unlikely team.

I’ve read most of James Rollins books. One of the things that I love about his stories is that he mixes the larger than life scenarios with mysterious events from days long passed. From ancient artifacts and biological weapons to undiscovered creatures and the latest in technology, it’s always a thrilling adventure. I first met army ranger Tucker Wayne and his military dog, Kane, in Bloodlines, a Sigma Force novel. Now they have their own series and I couldn’t be happier. Right out of the gate you’re with Tucker and Kane on the job. How they work as a team is amazing and my favorite parts in the book. Being a dog lover myself, the bond between them touched me in a big way. And also reading from Kane’s point of view brought home their affection for each other. It was sweet how they reassured each other, how Kane was so ferocious in his defense of Tucker, and how Tucker was torn when having to put Kane in danger. From one end of the globe to the other, the deadly duo took on some truly bad guys, or should I say gals. The action was super fast, and some scenes were so intense that I really worried about the outcome. These two talented authors lay it on the line is this fantastic new thriller series. Loved it and Tucker and Kane are now some of my favorite characters.

This book totally intrigued me from page one all the way to the end --- Kane, a war dog, was particularly deployed as he should be with amazing talents and I adored how the authors followed through with the dogs thoughts as he carried out his given commands! Even though the book is fiction at the end the author explained where all the details came from and how in reality a lot of it was really true or based on true facts. From the Boor War off to today – adventure, spies, murder, suspense! The book just had everything in it and was extremely difficult to put down! There just aren’t enough stars to rate it!
