Read an Excerpt
CHAPTER 1
I held my fists tightly, as I watched the room's controls grow blurry.
I felt sick in my stomach. I turned my head to the right, and watched Dave sitting excitedly with a grin on his face. "Maybe this isn't for me after all", I thought. There was no going back now. It was too late for regrets.
I felt the engine below me rumble, charging up for liftoff. I tried to lean backwards to look out the oval-shaped window.
Hundreds of people were standing there anxiously, ready for our expedition to begin. The engine's rumble slowly grew into a growl, then into a roar, and then into an ear-splitting squeal.
The rocket began to shake furiously. In a couple of minutes, I felt a nudge. We were taking off.
Dave's confidence seemed to wear out as well. Just a little bit though.
He is a brave guy after all. He can cope with lots of pressure. Everything was shaking so hard, I thought the rocket would fall apart.
But we kept going. I didn't dare to look outside the window to see the skyscrapers turn to specks of dust.
Just as I took a lasting breath, I felt the pressure release me from it's tight grasp. The rocket slowly came to a halt. Or did it?
I couldn't tell in the dark void we were engulfed in. I heard some static, and a voice come on the speaker.
"Congratulations!!! You've made it!"
