The Life
Alan Cramer 'The Dark Story Teller'

Alan Cramer's second novel The Life is a murder mystery about a serial killer plaguing the Hood. As is pointed out in the book, serial killers often go unrecognized in the Black community. The police just chalk up the killings to ghetto violence. But this story shows how, drugs sex and murder become intertwined in the The life of the streets.

Detective Honey Sinclair is recently promoted African American female. Most of her fellow officers think she's a little too pretty and was promoted too fast. Her first case looks like a simple drug related murder, but Detective Sinclair suspects something different. As the bodies pile up it becomes apparent that a serial killer is on the loose.

But politics dictate that when the victims are black women and drugs are involved, we don't use the word serial killer. Besides Sinclair's fellow officers inform her, "A white woman downtown was raped, the department feels its more expedient to go after her rapist than to chase after the killer of black women, remember, this is New York."

The Life. Not for the squeamish.

This is not a fairy tale, there is no happy ending...
