Omg, I just can't. I mean, seriously. I can't. This is 100% Klune Magic! It's Bear, Otter and The Kid with Tell Me It's Real mixed up with magic. Wizards, fairies, dragons, half-giants, hornless unicorns and so much more. Sam, Ryan, Tiggy, Gary, Kevin, Morgan, Randall, the parents, and the King, (even Justin by the end) were all just amazingly perfect. The dialogue, banter, and internal monologues were perfect and funny, the emotional love was heartwarming and heartbreaking and it was just wonderful! This isn't a book about sex (although there is a lot of talk about it). There is no actual sex scene until the last chapter, but it was like endless chapters of emotional foreplay that made it all into a perfect lead-in to the end. It had a nice ending where the MC's got their HEA, but also left you with a teaser for the next book. Please, please let the next book come soon. The worst part of this book was the ending, knowing it will literally be forever until the next one! So great, I read it straight through. I could not put it down. 430 pgs of awesomeness!

This book was hilarious and I couldn't stop cracking up the whole time I was reading it. The plot was fantastic and I was never bored once. The characters were highly entertaining and sassy. So great!

I couldn't get past ch 4. there was plenty of talk of Gay Homosexual talk. of male appendages meeting certain areas of the male body. from what little I did read, the banter of the characters was funny but ......the story could've been done a heck of a lot better. (a lot less homsexual talk) NO thanks!!!

Really gay Terry Pratchett meets a sweet romance. This has become one of my favorite re-reads. Klune weaves a hilariously, crass, unapologetically gay tale with a love story at its core. I bought it on a whim two years ago and couldn't put it down or stop laughing. I've given it to a dozen people since. It's silly, wonderful, sort of dirty and sweet.

Enjoyed the book, laughed out loud in more than a few places. Have never read gay romance before (no my genre), didn’t really realize that it was until I had started reading but enjoyed none the less.

Yes it's a gay love story about boys and wizardry and dragons and unicorns but it's told in the most over the top dialogue. will have a hard (sex pun) time putting this book down. If you loved Zanth you'll love Varenia; if you didn't, well maybe you should rethink your sense of humor.

4.5 stars I love this author so I started this book without really knowing what it was about. It took me a little while to realize that it wasn't a character's dream or something. It has magicians, a unicorn, a giant, fairies, etc. It's over the top hilarious for the entire story. I was rolling much of the time. Most of the characters are gay and sex acts are brought up often in a silly way, but there isn't a lot of actual sex. This is one of the funniest books I've read in a long time. I recommend that you don't read it in a location that requires you to be quiet because it's just not possible.

Interesting fantasy novel but with sasly copy and paste characters from TJ Klune's previous novels. Oblivious protagonist, sassy bffs, supportive yet clueless family...the list goes on. The dialogue is probably the biggest let down. Page after page of redundancy conversations. Mid way through the book your eyes will role every time you read "dude", "sass", or "prude". Some laugh out loud moments but not as many as his past works. By the end you'll agree with Prince Justin and wonder why everyone loves Sam.
