Once, when I was listening to NPR, there was a guest literature historian (not as dull as his title makes him sound lol) on the air who was talking about the novels of our times. He said that during the Great Depression, tons of literature was put out that described how different people dealt with the situation. It really affected novel making as a whole. He said that today we don’t see that very much. Where is the literature that describes people’s experiences in this situation (young or old, poor or rich)? That’s why I was happy to read The Listless. This novel deals with the lives of seven young adults whose situations during the Great Recession lead them to the road, to find something better. Their trip is full of romance, music, and learning experiences. I was impressed at the way this author captured the times as they are/were while also capturing my attention and making for an interesting (quick) read.

I'd recommend this book to any young adult reader. The storyline is fun and entertaining. There were a few unexpected twists, and I found myself rooting for the main character along his adventure. THE LISTLESS had me laughing at times, but in the end there is a deeper meaning that really had me take a look at my own life and the choices I've made. It's a quick read and definitely well worth it.
