The Long Journey to Freedom: Wholeness and Power in Jesus Christ
If you picked up this book, chances are you—or someone you love—knows the chains of addiction. You know the lies it whispers: "Just one more... You can quit anytime... This will take the pain away..." You know the guilt, the shame, and the loneliness. You know what it feels like to believe you are beyond saving.
But I am living proof that no one is beyond the reach of God's grace. I was once bound by alcohol, drugs, and despair. I lost my ministry, nearly lost my family, and wasted years in the grip of sin. Yet when I had reached rock bottom, Jesus Christ reached lower still—and lifted me out.
This book is not about a program, a method, or a quick fix. It is about a Person—Jesus Christ. He is the Deliverer. He is the One who breaks chains. He is the Higher Power who restores broken lives. Through Him, you can find freedom, wholeness, and power.
In the pages ahead, I will share my story with you—not to glorify the darkness, but to magnify the Light. I will walk you through the biblical principles that bring real transformation, and I will show you how the 12 steps, when centered on Christ and rooted in Scripture, can become a pathway to lasting recovery.
Wherever you are on your journey, whether you are bound by addiction, walking in recovery, or loving someone who struggles, I invite you to come with me. The journey may be long. It may be hard. But there is freedom ahead—and His name is Jesus.

About the Author

Dr. Clayton R. Hall Jr., DMin. is a retired Oneness Apostolic Pentecostal preacher, teacher, author, and counselor who has served in ministry since 1985. He was born in Sanford, Florida, and grew up in Pontotoc, Mississippi and Portland, Oregon, where he graduated from high school. He then attended Bible college at Northwest University in Kirkland, Washington, and later earned both his Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Theology/Christian Counseling, graduating summa cum laude, from Great Commission Bible College in Carl Junction, Missouri.
Dr. Hall ministered in the Seattle area for 20 years before moving with his family to Petal, Mississippi, in 2005, where he pastored faithfully until his retirement. Originally a Trinitarian, he came to the revelation of the Oneness of God through prayerful, Holy Spirit–guided study of Scripture and the history of the early church. His studies revealed that the doctrine of the Trinity was influenced by Greek philosophy and solidified under Emperor Constantine, a polytheist whose agenda was political unity rather than biblical truth.
Although retired from active pastoral ministry due to Parkinson’s disease, Dr. Hall continues to teach the Bible online, proclaiming the apostolic message of the risen Lord Jesus Christ — the one true God manifest in flesh. He and his wife have been married for over 38 years and are blessed with three grown children and four grandchildren. His life and ministry remain a testimony of God’s sustaining grace, the power of the Holy Ghost, and the transforming revelation of Jesus’ name.
