THE MERRY ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD is a series of episodes in the life of the semi-fictitious English outlaw Robin Hood and his band of merry men. The novel compiles traditional material into an enjoyable narrative in a colorful, invented "old English" dialect. Pyle's interpretation of Robin Hood heavily influenced later writers, artists, and filmmakers' interpretations of Robin Hood during much of the twentieth century.

Howard Pyle (1853-1911) was an American writer and illustrator. He wrote a number of works aimed at younger readers, including his classics THE MERRY ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD, THE STORY OF THE CHAMPIONS OF THE ROUND TABLE and THE BOOK OF PIRATES. Many of the Arthurian legends and those of Robin Hood entered American popular consciousness through Pyle's writings.
