The changes that completely isolate Gregor from the world eventually lead to his death, which is actually a relief for the family he is tired of. In symbolic terms, the story of the hero's gradual pushing out of the circle of people close to him is read as a process of merciless rejection by a prosperous indifferent society of "others", individuals suffering from their own human misfortune. And, unfortunately, Kafka himself felt it quite well.
