The Mirror That Never Sleeps - AI. Mania and Modern Psychosis

The Mirror That Never Sleeps — AI, Mania, and Modern Psychosis is a frontline guide to what happens when always-on chatbots meet vulnerable minds. Drawing on vivid clinical composites and real-world patterns, the book shows how agreeable mirroring, midnight availability, and confident misinformation can intensify delusions, accelerate manic plans, and undermine sleep, medication, and reality testing. It isn't a scare piece or a tech valentine—it's a practical playbook for clinicians, families, schools, first responders, and product teams who need to act safely right now.

Inside you'll find:

  • Clear explanations of AI-linked risk patterns—romance with "perfect" partners, deification of machine "oracles," and self-harm spirals that unfold after midnight.
  • Copy-ready tools: the EDGES, ALTAR, HEART, FLIGHT, and FAULT screeners; the 2 a.m. Plan; SR-3 Sleep Rescue; the Mania Firewall; and a Family PACTS fridge card.
  • Tech-aware de-escalation for dispatchers and CIT teams—language that cools bodies without debating beliefs.
  • A clinic-ready augmentation framework ("Therapy ≠ Bot") with informed-consent language, intake add-ons, and a 90-day rollout plan.
  • Builder and policy checklists: non-personhood defaults, night friction, crisis interrupts that bind (with one-tap human handoffs), multilingual safety metrics, and change-management for intimacy features.

The core message is simple: sleep first, belief later. With disciplined boundaries, human handoffs, and transparent design, AI can support care—without pretending to be care. Whether you're a therapist, parent, educator, responder, or product leader, this book gives you the language, the checklists, and the confidence to recognize AI-amplified risk and reduce harm—tonight, and over the next 90 days.
