Gregory the giraffe, Zedd the zebra, and Anna the antelope are blackmailed into helping King Leonard the lion hunt down their own kind, in exchange for his protection over their own lives. Gregory, however, secretly rescues the animals he lures to the greedy king.
Meanwhile, other animals on the African plains receive mysterious dreams where they are visited by the spirit of the noble lion named Lionel, who was king of the African plains before Leonard. Lionel informs them of a New Home. Some animals have already started their journey to find this New Home.
Soon, Gregory discovers a strange truth: after an animal completes the Circle of Life, its spirit passes onto a coinciding dimension of the planet Gaia. There, the passing spirit will inherit a new version of its earthen body.
