The Painful Side of Love by Rebecca Rohman

Mistakes.

We all make them. But when is a mistake too big to forgive? What happens when the consequences of our mistakes are so disastrous, they cause excruciating pain to everyone we hold near and dear?

San Francisco's Dr. Morgan Drake makes one mistake. One colossal mistake that could cost him everything and everyone he loves--including himself.

When interior designer, Zoë Drake sees small changes in her husband her investigations point to a mammoth problem. The happy marriage and great relationship they share quickly begins to evaporate. What's worse--it's all happening when Zoë's going through some changes of her own--at a time when she might need Morgan the most.

With a husband who is at times completely absent, a child who increasingly blames himself for his parents' issues, and a cryptic call that introduces the element of danger and fear, Zoë will soon realize that there is a painful side of love. As their world falls apart will there be anything that can secure their bond, or will this chapter of their lives come to a catastrophic end?

The Painful Side of Love is a follow-up novella to Rebecca Rohman's romantic suspense novel, Love M.D. If you like romance with a tad of steam, a huge injection of suspense and being taken on a roller-coaster of emotions, then this novella is for you.

This was nothing like I have read from Rebecca before, it was so much more, my emotions were on high alert and my mind was like holy crap on every page. Event after events took place and it was either good then bad or bad then good. Each one had it's own up or down to it. The story over all was amazing, the way it was written really kept a reader guessing and coming back for more. I love how it really ties into the previous story and talks about some of the characters from that and the events that have taken place from the previously written story. Reading this story was much easier then comping up with the right words besides MUST READ and WOW. I was so overwhelmed with the emotions of this story that some points I had to reread it to make sure my mind was getting it. I felt for the characters more in this story then the other ones, the love, tears, joy and sadness are really on the pages and you can feel them jump out at you. The story is going to be like nothing you have read before I do recommend reading Love M.D first so you can get the behind the scene of the characters. I loved it and cannot wait to see what Rebecca has next up her sleeves!!! ****I received this ARC for free in exchange for my honest thoughts****

This book came to me at a time when it hit very close to home. Another beautifully written, emotional book by Rebecca. If you've read Love M.D., then you're probably already a fan of Dr. Morgan Drake and his beautiful wife Zoe. This novella picks up a few years after the end of that story. They are happy, thriving and have a wonderful son. Not one to hold back, Rebecca immediately hits us with the first of her twists. And it hits Morgan hard. From there, we encounter more of Rebecca's delicious delivery of suspense, coupled with moments of despair, and then rays of hope. Morgan and Zoe are real people, dealing with very real situations and the ripple effect that one action has on surrounding outcomes. Being that this book is a follow up to Love M.D., I suggest reading that first to give you the background of Morgan and Zoe. It will make reading TPSOL that much more enjoyable for you. If you like writing that pulls you in, touches your heart and makes you think, I highly recommend ANY of her books. This one though, it may make you cry.

I received this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you Rebecca for giving me the opportunity to read again one of the most amazing stories you’ve wrote. You have a special place in my heart, as a friend and as an author. I am a huge fan of this wonderful author, but with every single story, she steers my heart and makes it do all crazy stuff. She makes me love her characters even more; she makes me addictive to the books, and eager for the next story. Her writing style makes you think everything happens smoothly, naturally, I cannot find a word good enough to describe it. This story was a pure roller-coaster, an intensive ride, a grab your seat and don’t stop reading kind of book. We get to see more of the Drake’s, their story, their day to day life, and again new trouble surrounds them. Zoë, Morgan and Adrian thought they finally can breathe, and they can continue their life’s without any trouble. But, it seems the problems have a way of finding a way to them. Will they make it this time? Will they have the power to confront what lies ahead? Or will they give up? I loved this story. I loved all the characters, and I’m glad I had a chance to read again about some of them, and I see what lies ahead. I loved the way the story continued, with how the Drake’s showed me of what they can endure, of what real family and love looks like. You can tell Rebecca it’s putting her heart into these stories. You can sense it from the first pages. An enthralling story, which will take a swing at your emotions. I highly recommend this book!

What an amazing book. Once you start reading The Painful Side of Love by Rebecca Rohman, you won't want to put it down. The characters are so well written that you feel like you are living the story with them. Everyone makes mistakes, but how Drake Morgan owns up to his mistake and how it affects the lives of his family and friends is wonderfully written.

**purchased on Amazon.com.au ** I really enjoyed this book by Rebecca Rohman I was intrigued from the first sentence, right until the end. The journey was an emotional one but it's wrapped up completely and eaves you all warm and fuzzy. It was a tough subject matter to tackle but Rebecca did it in a beautiful way, you felt each and every characters emotion, heartbreak, happiness and laughter It was nice to be reunited with the rest of the crew; their relationships are still just as strong as they were when we first met them

I love that Rebecca Rohman takes us beyond the HEA with her cast of characters. Zoe and Morgan found love and parenthood but life isn’t always easy. Morgan has to face the worst failing a surgeon can have which sends him spiraling, unable to deal with the guilt. As Zoe tries to connect with her husband, strange phone calls start happening but then their worst fears are realized when their son is kidnapped. We get to experience all the highs and lows as this great couple deals with all the challenges life throws at them and work to find ways to be stronger together. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

If you haven't read Ms. Rohman's work before, you are in for a treat. She has this magical way of weaving you into the story so you feel every emotion like it was your own. Even though this is a novella there is so much jam packed into the story. There is suspense, drama, gut punching moments and sweet and tender scenes. You definitely have to read Love M.D to fully appreciate the story but that is certainly not a chore. It was an incredible tale. But I digress. The Painful Side of Love was a tear jerking, gut clenching and heart racing journey. We are reunited with Dr Morgan and Zoe and it is so good to see them again. However, almost immediately, an incident at work cause a problem for Dr Morgan. One that will impact not only him but his family. *"Honestly Zoe, right now a part of me feels like you all would be better off without me. My actions in the last week have done nothing but cost the people I love and care about hurt, pain, and shame."* Despite Zoe trying to reach out to her husband, Morgan pulls back into himself. If that weren't hard enough, more dangers lurk in the shadows and Zoe is doing everything she can to hold onto her family. I won't go into more detail because I don't want to spoilt it but I will say this. While reading this story, I was reminded of the movie, the Butterfly Effect. This tale is exactly that. It shows the ripple effect of how one decision a person makes can have far reaching consequences. While our decisions are our own, they have a profound impact on people we love and people we haven't even met. That's why it is important to remember that our actions have consequences and can have untold repercussions on our loved ones and strangers. Each page of The Painful Side of Love was squeezing my heart and I was holding my breath and hoping for the best. Since reading the story, I've thought about the impact I have on the people around me. That's what Ms. Rohman's writing does. She touches on real issues and she handles them with such sensitivity and grace that you can't help but continue to think about the story long after you finish the final page. There is such emotion woven into this story that you'll need to take a moment to catch your breath. With the intense emotion and suspenseful drama, there are beautiful tender moments and yes, sexy scenes to break up the tension. I loved the cover but after finishing the story, the imagery and colours held so much more meaning. Really a superb read that I recommend for everyone.

Every time I read a book written by Rebecca Rohman I’m left with the desire to call my family and hubby to tell them how much I love them. Family occupies a big role in her books and I simply adore that. Morgan and Zoe create the ideal marriage everyone would want. The warmth and care they surround their children and close ones is wonderful; the love they have for each other even after so many years is powerful and real. I see Zoe as an exemplar mother and wife; I really like how she interacts with Adrian and Morgan. She knows when to let go and when to push the limits. Morgan, beside being handsome and a loving husband, he is responsible and protective. Another thing I absolutely admire is the loyalty of their friends; it’s admirable because in real life that thing is rare. In this story, Rebecca shows us that no matter how happy we think we are at the moment, life hit us hard and unintentionally or unknowingly our actions change forever our lives and others. I loved the plot in this book and the way it developed bringing many characters to the scene, each one with an important and precise place. Reading this book we can see the dedication and effort it took to create it. An experienced author who knows exactly how to make us love her work! Aside from the love I have for Rebecca, is my totally respect for her writing! I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review. Many thanks!

Another great book by Rebecca Rohman! I have yet to be disappointed with anything she writes. Every time I pick up one of her books I know I'm going to be left in an emotional heap by the end for one reason or another and The Painful Side of love was no different. As a matter of fact, this book is one of the biggest emotional roller-coasters I have been on to date! I mean... what more can I really say? You'll have to pick up your very own copy to read what I experienced because I cannot find the words to tell you how much I loved this book. You'll just have to read for yourself!! Thanks for another fantastic book, Rebecca!
