Prepared to live at your prime?
Integrative neurologist Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary discovered a beautiful side effect to the eating and lifestyle tools she gave her brain patientsspontaneously shedding excess pounds. In this, her first book, she shows us how to sharpen the brain, and smarten and heal the gut.
Weight gain is not about the food, but about the body’s environment. Excess weight is a result of the body being in a toxic, inflammatory state. If your body is not prepared or ‘primed’ for weight loss, you will fight an uphill biochemical battle.
Her program is not about what you can't have or do, it's about adding simple teas and herbs, and succeeding without giving up any foods you love. With The Prime, Dr. Chaudhary has reverse engineered our way of eating, so we can stop dieting backward and start losing weight instead. You'll learn:
The importance of neuroadaptation, food addiction, and the brain (or, why your brain and gut have made it so hard to lose weight in the past!)
Why it’s not about what you eat, but what you digest
How to determine if you have a Leaky Brain—and what The Prime can do about it (hint: everything)
How to easily crush cravings (no willpower required), ignite energy and fat, and biohack your lifestyle habits.
Lastly, you’ll learn how to live fully Primed, the secrets of the Super-Primed, and when you’re ready to explore new foods, how to eat according to your unique constitution.

Kulreet Chaudhardy, MD is an integrative neurologist. I was not familiar with her before seeing The Prime, but I found it fascinating. Dr. Chaudhardy shares how she came to the United States from India. In India, her grandfather was an Ayurvedic doctor and her family was treated through his methods. Then, after moving to the States as young girl with her family, Dr. Chaudhardy grew up and became a medical doctor. The Prime was written so I could easily understand as a layman and it was quite readable. As I have entered Midlife, I have found a few digestive issues and brain fog crop up in my own life that are troublesome. While I have not done so yet, I think her program looks doable and could help with those issues so they don't further develop into bigger issues down the road. I would recommend this book to everyone I meet. I think we are just beginning to realize how important our gut health is to our health in general. Certainly, Dr Chaudhardy didn't even realize how important it was in her own health until she started following these principle safter suffering some health issues of her own. It was after she had her own health issues that Western Medicine couldn't entirely heal, that she turned back to her native Ayurveda. I didn't know what Ayurveda was until reading this book and she explains it quite well. In my opinion, these kind of books, written by someone who has been there and gone through it are the best. The Prime isn't a diet book per se. Instead, Dr. Chaudhardy explains that weight loss will come about naturally after you make you body more healthy. I like that idea. I want to be healthy more than I want to be skinny so I resonate with the message of this book. After explaining how she developed the program and the science behind it, Dr. Chaudhardy explains the four stages to take back your health. First she offers a quiz to see how your body would best move through the stages and offers some advice for following the program. It doesn't seem that difficult to me and I like that it is somewhat flexible. She shares that we are all different individuals and that in taking the test, we are customizing the programs as the best fit for our body (without her seeing us as a patient). I am excited to give it a try. I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.
Dr. Kulreet Chaudhary, an Integrative Neurologist who found a way to combine the modern medical advances of Western taught Neurology with the centuries old wisdom of Ayurveda. Despite the title, The Prime Prepare and Repair Your Body for Spontaneous Weight Loss the book isn't selling or even really talking about a diet. That, far and above, was what appealed to me. The main focus of The Prime is to eliminate the effects of stress, inflammation and toxicity on the body. The effects can manifest as: •Bloating and Tiredness after eating •Migraine Headaches •Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) •Diarrhea •Gas •Mental Cloudiness •Weight Gain •Depression •Anxiety Dr. Chaudhary sought out complimentary Ayurvedic treatment options for her patients suffering from Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's Disease and discovered that some of those patients were able to begin cutting back on the traditional pharmaceutical options that she (and other doctors) had been prescribing to them and they were seeing greatly improved quality of life. It wasn't any religious chanting, no special oils or anything other than a concentration on regaining the balance in their digestive system which then would allow their other internal organs and systems to detoxify so that the treatments they were receiving could have their maximum effect. The best thing I read (by page 14 no less) was that a very simple adjustment to refresh the way the body digests food was resulting in: •Sharper and clearer mental focus •Skin regained elasticity, wrinkles began disappearing, skin brighter •Excess weight began falling away, puffiness disappearing •10 pounds gone with no additional exercise and no diet changes •Energy returned •Less pain in joints •Fewer sleep problems •Fewer memory issues •Cravings for sugar and other foods that can lead to weight gain all but disappeared in addition to cravings for excessive sugar, alcohol and caffeine •Cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure levels returned to normal Since there seemed to be so many pluses to this approach and it's a very easy to follow cleanse that allows me to eat whatever I feel like eating, I gathered the herbs required and brewed my tea today.
Great Book - A completely different angle on health and weight loss. Weight loss as a spontaneous symptom of good health. Love it.
