The Rancher and the Runaway Bride Part 2

Since Randi Howell fled her own wedding—and sinister gunmen—and made a new home at Brady Jones's Texas ranch, she knows this is where she belongs, with the work, the horses and especially Brady.

Randi doesn't know who the gunmen were planning to kill, but she heard enough that they're still after her. She's safe for now far away in Texas. But she hasn't told Brady about her past. The strong, handsome rancher is everything she has ever wanted in a man. He's a man of honor—how could he accept her if he knew she'd left her fiancé at the altar?

Read the conclusion in The Rancher and the Runaway Bride Part 3.

I enjoy Susan Mallery books and I like the story lines and I like her characters... I can always identify with her "people"... But this concept of dividing a book into thirds (like three Novella's) and offering them a couple of days apart is new to me and I am not sure I like it... I read fast and do not like to be interrupted in the story... Also, the first segment is free and you purchase the second two... Think I prefer to buy a book and read it without the couple of day wait in between... Just my opinion...

While the first part is free, you'll need to pay $2.99 each for both this part 2 and again for part 3 to finish the story. Part 2 is barely 80 pages of story, successfully building on the main characters' attraction, between the runaway bride, now groom on a west Texas ranch, and the hardworking decent ranch owner. Realistic conflict, because she lacks confidence and doesn't believe he'd be attracted to her, while he's trying to behave properly as her employer, but also hesitant because she won't trust him with her secret. This part 2 is ok as a lightweight western romance, but only two stars for being incomplete. There are only 50 pages and four chapters of story in part 3. If these had been combined, it would have made for a much more satisfying read.

The spell war had broken out. Michael dived behind an enchanted flower pot. "Stupefy!" He yelled as the spell hit one of the Deaths. Everyone got his drift- Stupefy, and if someone used Expelliarmus, return the favor. "Stupefy!" Lilly yelled at the top of her lungs. "Expelliarmus!" Lucius shot back. "Expelliarmus!" Shaun had slid in, just in time. The dazed Lucius with no wand toppled over. "I don't know how Draco ever beared with his stupid old dad!" Shaun screamed. Michael nodded and pointed at another Death. "Stupify!" He yelled. Toppling over, he noticed it was Avery. Pleased, he stared over at Lanie. She was about get hit with a spell- Michael ran over. "Avada-" "STUPEFY!" Michael yelled at the Death. Lanie spun around from battling another Death, but Michael was already pointing a wand at the drowsy Malfoy. "Stupefy." He said. "Whatta git," Michael muttered. He turned to see another Death- the one without a wand- lunging at him. "Impedimenta!" The Death flew backwards, knocking out another one. "Strike!" Shaun grinned before facing another Death. Lilly was Stupefying Deaths- it was like they came in a line to get Stupefied- Michael thought he'd never saw a dumber thing. It finally came down to the last hundred or so of Deaths- each one easier than the last. This time they let none escape- 1,000 Stupefied Deaths lay in the room. "Be careful to step on 'em." Shaun murmured as he happily stopped his foot down on a Death. He looked everywhere. Death, Death, Death, Death, Fred, Death... "Shaun!" He yelled as he ran over to Fred's body. "KILLING CURSE?! WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH ME?! WHY ME?! OUR BACKYARD IS GOING TO BE NOTHING BUT BURIED BODIES SOON-" "I'm part of your family." Michael repeated, and Shaun stopped. "We'd better Apparate." Lilly said. And with a crack, the five were back home. "Damn it." Shaun moaned. "Me, our family's falling- I don't know what to do..." "I do, I'd better check on Lanie." Michael said firmly. He went upstairs to find Lanie, horrorstruck, laying on the bed. He sat down. "You ok?" "No, our family's half gone," she said. Michael smiled. He liked that she said 'our' instead of 'her'. She wasn't crying- she hadn't had the chance. "And my birthday's tomorrow." She moaned. "No mum, no dad, no Fred, no-" "you've got us." Michael said softly. She nodded. "That's the good part." Michael edged closer. "I have an early birthday present." He said. Lanie looke up at him and instantly knew what he meant. He kissed her, and she kissed back. It was wonderful- there was a knock at the door. He let go and opened it to Shaun and Lilly. "She alright, mate?" Michael nodded. "I think Fred was lying about our brother." He looked Lanie square in the eye; he lit up. "You neber finished your biography, Lanie. He wanted you to feel like an imposter." Lanie gasped, but Michael quickly knew he was right. ***** SKY next part next res. Comments at 'runaway jury' along with a discription of the book.

To be continued. I enjoy most of the story, but do not like the book split into 3 parts/books.

Part two built on the mystery of the runaway bride. This is different than most runaway brides.
