A passionate new series from USA Today bestselling author Jennifer Bernard …

Every family has its secrets… and its rebel.

Deep in the Cascade mountains, the Rockwell family has been running historic Rocky Peak Lodge for generations. But now, that legacy is at risk of disappearing forever.

Kai, always the rebel, would rather risk his life as a rescue paramedic than deal with his impossibly stubborn father, “Mad Max” Rockwell. Only one thing could bring him home—a real threat to his family. Especially in the form of a beautiful woman.

Nurse Nicole Davidson never pictured herself as a spy. All she wants is security for her disabled sister. Get some inside intel for a friend’s investment group while working for surly Max? She can do that. Until the outrageously sexy Kai Rockwell shows up and sets everything on fire—most especially her.

Equally determined, equally passionate about protecting their families, Kai and Nicole don’t know if they should be enemies or lovers—or both. All they know is they can’t resist each other…no matter the price.

Horrible lead. Did not feel one ounce of compassion for Nicole. Her character was poorly written. Skipped thru the book just to get to end. Nothing to capture my attention at all. Will not read another in the series. Or even try this author again.

This is a great start to a new series. The characters are well developed, likable and relatable. The story is believable, interesting and well written. I love the wilderness lodge setting and the diversity of the Rockwell siblings. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Bernard has in store for the Rocky Peak lodge and the rest of the Rockwell family. ARC received from the author and voluntarily reviewed.

WOW!! I loved, loved, loved reading The Rebel by Jennifer Bernard book one in her brand new series, The Rockwell Legacy. Kai Rockwell will always be considered the rebel, leaving home after one too many fights with his stubborn, impossible father, “Mad Mac”. Kai became a rescue paramedic so that he could continue to work in the mountains he so loved. After receiving a group call from his siblings, Kai agrees to return to Rocky Peak Lodge, deep in the beautiful Cascade Mountains, to make sure their legacy was safe, check on Max and the nurse who was taking care of Max. Nicole took the nursing job, taking care of Max in order to get some inside intel on the lodge for her best friend’s investment group. Nicole never saw herself as a spy, all she wants is security for her disabled sister. All is fine, until Kai shows up and disrupts the balance, questioning everything Nicole has done. Kai and Nicole definitely have chemistry and off the chart attraction. Equally determined and equally passionate, Kai and Nicole don’t know if they should be enemies or lovers, or both. All they know is they can’t resist each other - no matter the price. Ms. Bernard wrote an amazing and fantastic must read book. This story is filled with sexual chemistry, fun dialogue, and endearing characters; as well as heartbreak, and conflict. I highly recommend this book to other readers and look forward to the next book in the series. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

Another fantastic start to a new series! The Rebel starts with the oldest son, Kai, coming home and butting heads with his ailing dad’s new nurse. Sparks fly right from the start between Kai and Nicole partly because they are both keeping secrets. I really enjoyed this story and how Kai and Nicole’s relationship develops. I’m looking forward to getting to read the rest of the Rockwell’s stories in this series. I highly recommend this book! You will not be disappointed.

What a fun start to a new series by Jennifer Bernard. Fans will love it (I did!) and new readers will fall in love with her characters, writing style, and setting. Kai is the rebel of the family and the black sheep to his father, but to his siblings and everyone else, he is a hero. Well, most of the time. Nicole isn’t too happy with him at their first meeting and the flying and acknowledged clichés left me giggling. Bernard continues to write fun and believable characters. Kai and Nicole are people with huge hearts, especially for their families. The storyline was interesting and Bernard roped me in from the very beginning. She always does a wonderful job of balancing humor and serious situations in her writing, along with a believable storyline and gorgeous descriptions of the settings. #TheRebel #TheRockwellLegacy #JenniferBernard

Another wonderful read. Ms. Bernard never ceases to amaze me. Each series leaves me thinking it was the best...then the next one comes out. And The Rebel followed in that pattern. Kai Rockwell is definitely a man I'd like to have on my side. A true hero and romantic with a perfect splash of humor. He serious adores his brothers and sister...and even though they are always at each others throats...his father. Lovely nurse Nicole comes in with her own secrets. And it's definitely not love at first sight for them. Loved this book. I think it's a great start to another great series. Looking forward to the rest!

This the first book in the new Rockwell Legacy. Our rebel, Kia is a mountain guide and paramedic working with a rescue team. He's just found 2 lost hikers when he's starts receiving texts from his brothers and sisters. They are worried about their dad, the lodge that is their legacy and the woman that's been hired to care for Max. Kia Rockwell left Rocky Peak 15 years ago after a huge blowout with his dad. Nicole is home health aide caring for Max. She's there for 2 reasons, caring for Max and to gather information about the lodge for her friend Felicity. Nicole has a disabled sister, so she's going along with Felicity for the huge bonus she'll make. Nicole has been struggling to earn enough to keep her sister in the best facility. Before they even meet, Nicole overhears Kia saying horrible things about her, She has never been more furious. Sparks fly between them, will they be able to get along, Kia's promised not to fight with Max and Nicole's there to make sure he's keeps calm. I received an eARC from the author for a honest review.

After yet another fight with his father Mad Max Rockwell, Kai decides to leave Rocky Peak Lodge. At 17yrs old, Kai embarks on an adventure of his own becoming a rescue paramedic taking various assignments all over the US never forgetting the Cascades. Although he has kept in touch with his family, he hasn't been back to the Lodge since that fateful argument that drove him away. Until his dad's health issues threaten his family's legacy. Nicole would and has done practically everything to ensure her sister is taken care of, but being a nurse's aide barely covers the bills. When her sister gets placed in a private room, after an argument with her roommate, Nicole doesn't know where she's going to come up with the extra money. When her best friend figures out Nicole's new client is Max Rockwell, she offers Nicole a side job with all the perks. Nicole is supposed to spy on the Rockwells so that her best friend has the upper hand when making an offer to purchase the Lodge. If her friend lands this deal, she makes partner. Win, win. Until Nicole meets Kai... Wow, just wow!!! What a way to start a new series! I've read practically every novel Jennifer Bernard has written and I think this one is her best yet! Kai is untrusting by nature. Nicole can't tell a lie without blushing. The combination provides a combustible couple. Their chemistry is undeniable. Nicole feels as though she's being blackmailed by her best friend and absolutely hates lying to the Rockwells who have become a family to her. Kai realizes the destruction secrets can cause. He also realizes true love doesn't come around every day, but is he too late? Love this story and can't wait to see how the rest of the series unfolds. I received a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.

I loved every single minute of this book because of the breathtaking scenery of the majestic Cascade Mountains that surround the site of the Rockwell family owned Rocky Peak Lodge. All I had to do was close my eyes and I could practically feel the wind in my face and the pine scent in the air with the glorious outdoor descriptions the author provided. But it was the broken hearts of the Rockwell siblings in the opening scene that grabbed my heart and really made me care about what happened to this entire family. Kai Rockwell is my new book boyfriend because of his super sexy confidence, his rockin’ body and the outdoor search and rescue skills that are his specialty. This exciting drama is filled with heartbreaking family secrets and emotional wounds that desperately need healing while a sweet and oh-so-sexy unexpected romance will bring lots of changes to the entire Rockwell family. I read an early copy of this book and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.

The Rebel is the first book in Jennifer Bernard’s new series The Rockwell Legacy. At first I had a hard time getting into this book. It seemed slow but about half way through it picked up for me. I loved Mad Max, the cantankerous father of five children, who lost his wife in an accident many years ago. The Rebel was filled with secrets throughout. From Kai, the son, who held a secret so close it forced him to walk out on his family and legacy. Nicole Davidson has come to Rocky Peak Lodge to care for Mad Max whose health is in decline. There she falls for not only the lodge itself but the family that represents it. Nicole has not one but two secrets that cause her to hold back in some ways and fight for what she believes in other ways. When all of the secrets are revealed, will they ultimately affect the lives of Kai and Nicole? Can they overcome them? The Rebel is a good solid read that I definitely recommend. I look forward to the next book in the series and hope that Mad Max is as feisty as ever.

Juuuuuust when I thought I had the story figured out…bam! Another curveball! (In a good way, of course.) Kai Rockwell is the hero in this story, or maybe to be more accurate, he is actually The Rebel. He has a battered soul and a beaten-down heart but he puts on a great face. I won’t recap the story as Ms. Bernard does a MUCH better job telling it than I ever could, but we follow Kai from his rebellious teenage years to present day, when he returns home to face the music, so to speak. One of my favorite scenes is at the beginning of the book, where Kai rescues two sixteen year old girls who are lost while hiking. The Valley Girl-like dialogue is priceless and the way they treat Kai, you know, their hero/rescuer, is hilarious. They commandeer his phone to talk to their parents and end up answering texts that are meant for Kai. Seriously, too funny. Kai does return to his family home because according to one of his brothers, Kai’s father is acting strangely AND has a “new nurse”. There’s more to the story here, this is just a simplified version, and that’s when Kai meets Nicole Davison, the new nurse. Kai and Nicole do a dance around each other however each one is keeping their pasts secret. Kai has much family history – although he adores his siblings, even when he wants to smack ‘em! – and Nicole is actually doing some spying on the Rockwells, for a friend. I loved, loved, loved their story and am anxious to read about the rest of the Rockwell siblings. Kai is a deep, emotional soul and Nicole is so very deep into her own family obligations and guilt and it takes her a while to come up for air. The author did a wonderful job of telling their story. I want to move to their mountain town to get to know these characters.

OMG I adore Kai Rockwell!! This is such a great story! It has so much heart and soul and made me feel so many emotions! Kai and Nicole are just amazing people and incredible characters! They clearly have chemistry and an immediate attraction but they do not like or trust each other very much at first. The story around their budding romance is just so good. Kai returns to Rocky Peak Lodge because he fears his father will lose their family legacy to his nurse (Nicole) who seems to be hellbent on getting him to sell. Her real reasons for wanting this are not known for a while. The sparks fly when these two meet and not necessarily in a good way. Both are such passionate people. They come such a long way as they spend more time together and get to really know each other. I love their relationship and how they strengthen each other and give each other a peace neither has ever felt before. I was so excited for the start of this new series and this book exceeded my expectations! I can't wait to get more of the Rockwells!!

Amazing start to a new series, a page turner that I could not put down. Every family has a rebel, Kai left many years ago to never return but one telephone call changes everything. Kai has returned home to find the family lodge in disrepair and his father's health failing him. His father's nurse Nicole, has secrets and has a job to do. Not planning on the sexual chemistry between her and Kai, will soon change the plans. Enemies to lovers, loved the banter between Kai and Nicole. Great sexual chemistry. The one thing they have in common is the love of their family and what they would both do for them. Great laugh out moments. Can't wait to read more of the Rockwell family. I highly recommend this book.

A fabulous book that kicks off what I expect will be a fantastic series. Kai Rockwell returns home when the family business is put in jeopardy. The Rock Peak Lodge has been in the Rockwell family for generations but now it faces financial ruin. Kai will do whatever it takes to save it including putting up with his father Max Rockwell. Max is ailing and in need of care. That's when Nicole Davidson arrives. She provides excellent care for his father but Kai feels there is something more to her than she's letting on. Nicole and Kai can't deny the attraction between them but the secrets may end up keeping them apart. This is a well done book that is fun, entertaining, and perfect for a relaxing afternoon read. I highly recommend it.
