About the Author

My name is Dewaine Brown and I was born September 17, 1982 and raised in Orangeburg, SC. I started my education at Trinity Learning Center, then Rivelon Elementary school, next I went to Brookdale Middle school for 5th grade and Felton Laboratory for 6th-8th grades, finally Orangeburg Wilkinson High school for 9th-12 grades. After graduation, I attended Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College then South Carolina State University (HBCU) and marched on the “Marching 101” band. I decided it was time for me to get out of “Da Burg” and live a different lifestyle. I enlisted in the United States Army in October 2003 and completed all mandatory training successfully. I deployed to Afghanistan in 2006 with the 10th Mountain Division, Special Troop Battalion, Network Support Company for Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF 6 and 7). After military service in 2010, I attended the University of Alaska Anchorage fulltime for an Associate of Arts degree in Culinary Arts and successfully completed all required training. In 2017, I moved back home to SC and barely endured a mundane fulltime job until I built my dream; Phat Daddy’s. Yes, there is A LOT more to my life, however this memoir is only about my Culinary Adventures and a special shout-out to Phat Daddy’s Custom Works.
