About the Author

Stephen Crane (1871-1900) was an American realist writer and journalist. He began writing at the age of four, and after leaving school at the age of twenty, began a short career as a journalist and writer. He wrote THE RED BADGE OF COURAGE in 1895 but did not experience war first-hand until he covered the Spanish-American War in 1898. Crane died of tuberculosis at the age of 28.
