The Seeds of Man is a post-apocalyptic thriller about a young man and a young woman who must struggle to survive in a frozen landscape dominated by food lords, bandits, and religious fanatics. A world in which people are willing to kill for a crust of bread. But there's hope, would be, if good people could gain control of the doomsday seed repository called The Sanctuary. Clear your calendar for an all night read! Dietz does it again.

This book could be better, as he ends it quite abruptly, leaving characters hanging. Probably planning a sequel, or a series, but I don't think it'd be worth the effort. He could have closed out this one with two or three more chapters, binding the loose threads in the plot.

William C. Dietz’s “Seeds of Man” will draw everyone, from early teens through adults, into a post apocalyptic world 60 years after a nuclear exchange between China, Pakistan and India, and the second US Civil War.  Dietz has “nailed” the psyche of his teenage characters.  The dark world that Dietz has created, self-interest is king. Society is composed of slave towns with Lords who specialize in controlling  food, tech or salvage.  Outside the slaves towns bandits, independent communes and religious groups prey on each other. In this world we follow two teenagers in their quest to survive and improve their world. Lora Larsy and her father live in a underground community, “Sanctuary.”  It is dedicated to preservation seeds for mankind.   Lora is part of the Canadian idealists group  that set out to fulfill their goal of distributing seeds to supply food for the “outsiders.”   They immediately run into trouble. Many miles away Tre Ocho is alone in Wyoming and is fending for himself because his mother was murdered by roving bandits.   Tre has learned to avoid other people because the bandits, and slavers prey on anyone who appear weak or is unprotected by a Lord.   But when Tre sees a girl being bullied he steps up to intervene.  But no good deed goes unpunished. Each of the teenagers use whatever means necessary to survive the dangerous reality in which they find themselves. They battle “Crusaders”, bandits, slavers and psychotic individuals just to stay alive.  The dire circumstances that they encounter, leads them to join groups who are trying  to better their world.  I would like to see a sequel to this gripping novel.
